Sinners dropping just 6% in its second weekend merits a much bigger headline than its $48 million opening. It is actual box-office news--news as in "This never happens." Just a giant thing, for Ryan Coogler and for the future of original material.

It’s a shame the Oblivion remaster didn’t lean into the colors of the original. The Riven remake really shows how it can be done. It just received an update for RT reflections even, which is awesome.

Uh hey kindly Patreon folks, please pledge from either an android device or from your computer. Pledging on Apple mobile devices incurs an enormous fee starting in November.
From my email from Patreon:

Apple is requiring that Patreon use their in-app purchasing system and remove all other billing systems from the Patreon iOS app by November
2024. This means that starting in November, new memberships purchased in the iOS app will be subject to Apple's 30% App Store fee.

First, we want to be clear about one thing: this will not impact your existing memberships at all. Apple's App Store fee only applies to new memberships purchased in the iOS app beginning in November 2024.

This is a coverup of the real reason we skipped a decennial census and ended up with the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929: In 1920, urban populations finally overtook rural ones, and they capped it to preserve power for white non-urban Protestants.

Open letter to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Dr. Jill Biden from 45 American physicians about what they saw while working in Gaza. “Gaza was the first time I held a baby's brains in my hand. The first of many.”
July 25, 2024
Re: American physicians' and nurses' observations from the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023
I've never seen such horrific injuries, on such a massive scale, with so few resources. Our bombs are cutting down women and children by the thousands. Their mutilated bodies are a monument to cruelty.
Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, trauma and critical care surgeon
I saw so many stillbirths and maternal deaths that could have been easily prevented if the hospitals had been functioning normally.
Dr. Thalia Pachiyannakis, obstetrician and gynecologist
Every day I saw babies die. They had been born healthy. Their mothers were so malnourished that they could not breastfeed, and we lacked formula or clean water to feed them, so they starved.
Asma Taha, pediatric nurse practitioner
Gaza was the first time I held a baby's brains in my hand. The first of many.
Dr. Mark Perlmutter, orthopedic and hand surgeon
Dear President Joseph R. Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Dr. Jill Biden,
We are fortyThis letter and the appendix show probative evidence that the human toll in Gaza is far higher than is understood in the United States. It is likely that the death toll from this conflict is already greater than 92,000, an astonishing 4.2% of Gaza's population. Our government must act immediately to prevent an even worse catastrophe than what has already befallen the people of Gaza and Israel. A
suppor for Stae and supporting an internatonal ars entarge on both Israd and al Palestinian
armed groups. We believe our government is obligated to do this, both under American law and International Humanitarian Law, and that it is the right thing to do.
With only marginal exceptions, everyone in Gaza is sick, injured, or both. This includes every national aid worker, every international volunteer, and probably every Israeli hostage: every man, woman, and child. While working in Gaza we saw widespread malnutrition in our patients and our Palestinian healthcare colleagues. Every one of us lost wthird-world healtheare system. The rate of infection in C-section incisions was astonishing. Women underwent C-sections without anesthesia, and were given nothing but Tylenol afterwards because no other pain medications were available.
Al if ongerons swerges try departure, hyperei, and diatient Asking tre arment prints, most
ICU beds were taken up by type 1 diabetics who no longer had access to injected insulin, due to the lack of medication and the widespread loss of electricity and refrigeration. Israel has destroyed more than half of Gaza's healthcare resources and has killed one out of every 40 healtheare workers in Gaza.
At the same time healthcare needs have increased massively from the lethal combination of military violence, malnutrition, and disease.
The hospitals where we worked were starved of basic supplies from, surgical material to soap. They were regularly cut off from electricity and Internet access, denied clean water, and operated at four to seven times their bed capaDr. Biden, you worked with young people throughout your life. We hope and pray that you will not look away from the unspeakable horrors the youth of Gaza face today, horrors only we as Americans can end.
We sincerely hope you will do everything in your power to stop what is being done to them.
President Biden and Vice President Harris, any solution to this problem must begin with an immediate and permanent ceasefire. We urge you to withhold military, economic, and diplomatic support from the State of Israel and to participate in an international arms embargo of both Israel and all Palestinian armed groups until a permanent ceasefire is established, and until good faith negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians lead to a permanent resolution of the conflict.
In the meantime:
1. All land crossings between Gaza and Israel as well as the Rafah Crossing must be opened to unfettered aid delivery by recognized international humanitarian organizations. Security screening of aid deliveri

Musk is such an intensely nasty creature
Wilson said that, when she was a child, Musk would harass her for exhibiting feminine traits and would pressure her to appear more masculine, including by pushing her to deepen her voice as early as elementary school.
"I was in fourth grade. We went on this road trip that I didn't know was actually just an
advertisement for one of the cars - I don't
remember which one - and he was constantly
yelling at me viciously because my voice was too high," she said. "It was cruel."
Musk did not respond to a request for comment.

The uproar over the NDIS and sex work shows society still struggles to see disabled people as sexual beings | Clem Bastow and Ali Schnabel
Puritanical attitudes that infantilise adults are dehumanising – and they can be dangerous, too Disabled people are once again being kicked around in a game of ideological football. This week the minister for the NDIS, Bill Shorten, ruled out the use of sex work services under the scheme as part of his efforts to impose austerity on a program that provides life-changing supports for more than half a million disabled Australians. It does not take an actuary to recognise that, given there were just 228 requests in 12 months, the material impact upon the scheme of disallowing sex work services will be minimal. The discourse surrounding this issue, however, betrays a deeper undercurrent of social attitudes toward disabled people. Namely, that they do not have sexual needs, are not interested in sex and shouldn’t be having it anyway. Continue reading...

oh my god there's a chinese knockoff of the cybertruck and somehow the cybertruck looks like a cheap knockoff of it www.carscoops.com/2024/05/dong...
The side of the new Dongfeng electrick pickup, which has four doors and a tent built into the buttressed rear bed. Suicide rear doors create a massive opening, and there is some kind of drop-down step so you can get up into the cabin. The front quarter view of the Dongfeng electric pickup,, which has the kinds of actual styling elements that the Cybertruck doesn't. It also combines flat lines with curved elements, to create a cyberpunk look that isn't amateurish in its uncompromising starkness. The high beltline and small greenhouse are still dystopian, but in a more polished, complete way.The tent awning off the back of the rear bed of the Dongfeng electric truck isn't wildly impressive, but at least it's not a $3k accessory like the overpriced Cybertruck tent. The bed is also small and impractical, but it doesn't look like a dumpster so it has that going for it.The interior of the Dongfeng electric pickup is clearly inspired by the Cybertruck's minimalist interior, but it still has things like grab handles and the seats are nicely styled so it looks tough and dystopian and not like the bathroom of a cheap nightclub.

What makes this even sillier is how it's totally unnecessary to the priorities of the electorate. Starmer isn't appealing to voters at all here, he's appealing to a few dozen newspaper editors and columnists who get off on the power trip of talking utter bollocks about us over cocktails and cocaine
Polling data visualisation of the priorities of British voters from May this year. At the very bottom of the graph is the debate about transgender people at 1% of importance to voters

Found my new favorite benign conspiracy theory thanks to r/cyberstuck
Screenshot of r/cyberstuck post titled “feel the drain”. The post is a screenshot of a tweet (I know, just go with it) that reads:

My @Cybertruck was in an airport parl lot for 10.5 days with sentry mode & overheat protection turned off. Totar phantom drain was 45%. Parked it at 70% on Monday 3 June at 10am. Picked it up at 7pm at 25%. Data points for new truck owners.Replies to the Reddit post:
Poster 1: The battery is 123 kWh. 45% is 55.35 kWh. Over 10.5 days that is 5.27 kWh per day. About 220W
'phantom drain'. That's more than my house, expect my house has the tv, internet, wireless, stove, fridge, microwave, garage door etc all running. What on earth does the cyberfail do with that power?

Poster 2: Mining cryptocurrency for Elon.
