Having to mute the word traitors is a bit of a thing, especially given the numbers of *actual traitors* scattered around at the moment.

Anamori Inari shrine is one of my faves in Tokyo and I'm really lucky to have it so close to where I live. Just 15mins away by train. Since its complete refurbishment a few years ago, it's just got better and better. Not least for the tower they built. Allowing you to get up amongst the rooftops.
A panoramic photo stitched from six vertically shot photos, of the roofs and tops of some of the red torii gates at Anamori Inari Shrine, near Haneda Airport, Tokyo. The rooftops of Anamori Inari Shrine, out near Haneda Airport. We see these wonderful roofs just before sunset, from the top of the shrine. A beautiful warm light bathing the whole scene in this 65x24 aspect ratio photograph.

25 tonnes of nurdles, more than 1 billion nurdles, were spilled into the Tyne last week and are washing up on our beaches, north and south of the Tyne. Likely one of the largest ever plastic pollution events in the UK. There is remarkably little mention of this on here.
Guardian headline from Weds 22nd July reading:

“One billion plastic pellets spilled into River Tyne after two ships collide
Up to 25 tonnes of nurdles, the raw material for plastic manutacturing, have spread further than initially feared”

With an image of a beach covered in nurdles.

The strangest thing happened today. We went to the uninhabited island of Lunga, west of Mull, to look at the puffins nesting there. I was just taking photos when I felt a thump as something landed quite heavily in my head. It was a puffin! It stayed for about a minute before flying off.
A man with his back to the camera, wearing a blue jacket and a grey woolen hat. A puffin is sitting on top of his head. On the left, an arm holding a mobile phone can be seen. In the background, a green slope and the sea beyond.In this photo the puffin is taking off.

Response to my FOI about the new barriers in North Tyneside near on NCN 14/72. It's a shambles. No equality assessment, and North Tyneside council don't care. Nothing considered to tackle motor vehicle speeds. No consideration to something like a parallel crossing. @walkwheelcyclet.bsky.social

Response:

2) Was an Equality Impact Assessment carried out at this location, as required by the Equality Act 2010 S.149, prior to the installation of this barrier;

No.
3) Could you please provide a copy of that Equality Impact Assessment;

No information held. None undertaken.
4) Why was a full, permanent metal barrier used here?

To prevent cyclists from speeding across the junction at what is a blind corner and where there have been numerous incidents / near misses including a cyclist colliding with an exiting HGV.
5) Who installed this barrier?

North Tyneside Council.
6) Who approved this barrier?

North Tyneside Council.

10) What allowances and accommodations have been made for disabled cyclists?

No specific allowances.
11) Leading on from 10), what provision has been made for cargobikes, tricyclists, and adaptive cycles in general?

No specific allowances.12) How would a cargobike pass through here? (Assume length of 2.15, width 89cm)

Information not held. This would require further design work and on-site measurements.
13) How would a recumbent handcycle pass through here? (Assume 2.2m length, 5.5m turning radius - not an extreme example, fairly typical).

Information not held. This would require further design work and on-site measurements.
14) How would an upright handcycle pass through here? (Assume 1.8m length, 5.5m turning radius - again, not extreme, fairly typical)

Information not held. This would require further design work and on-site measurements.
15) How would a wheelchair with a clip-on handcycle pass through here? (assume length of 1.6m, width of 72cm at the bottom, 74cm at the cranks - Again, not extreme, fairly typical)

Information not held. This would require further design work and on-site measurements.
16) Please explain how the installation of this barrier, and the subsequent de facto banning of disabled cyclists from this route, aligns with this programme.

There has been no intentional banning of disabled cyclists. Rather, work deemed necessary to address a clear and present safety risk to users of the cycleway including disabled cyclists has been undertaken.
17) Please clarify how the installation of these barriers aligns with S.20(3);

No further works are planned at this time.24) Moving on from the equality aspect, was a prioritised crossing such as a Zebra or signalised considered? And if so why wasn’t one constructed? Please include documentation detailing the decision.

No information held. Not considered.
25) What measures were considered to control and slow the actions of drivers along that stretch of Northumberland Dock road? What if any have been implemented? Please include documentation detailing the decision.

No information held. Poor visibility at a blind corner was the issue rather than the speeds of exiting vehicles.

If they closed road infrastructure every time there was antisocial behaviour, it'd never be open. Meanwhile, if you needed to sit to wait for your bus, you were effectively under curfew; if you could stand, you'd have no respite from sun or rain; & you wouldn't find out until you got there.
Were sorry jut due to ongoing issues with antisocial behaviour at North Shields Transport Hub, the bus companies have taken the unfortunate decision to withdraw all services from the Transport Hub after 1800 each evening on Friday 19th until Sunday 21st June. Daytime services remain unaffected.

[Details of where buses will stop]

We're continuing to work with Northumbria Police and North Tyneside Council to tackle these issues as quickly as possible
