"purity tests" "circular firing squad" "the left eat their own" are such bullshit phrases. people disagree on politics! that's how it works. deal with it instead of whining about marginalized people correctly pointing out that certain "compromises" only strengthens fascism

Common theme of people I've interviewed recently. At universities, in research centers, in diplomacy, in the legal system, dealing with refugees or immigrants: The reality inside is much worse than you would think from the outside.

A small child recently described her cat to me by saying "She's orange with pink toe beans." I hereby request that every cat description should henceforth include toe bean color. This is vital information we have all been keeping to ourselves.

Catie Malik is once again King GOP's preferred candidate. She also answered their candidate questionnaire...with a very transphobic answer regarding trans girls in sports, whom Catie calls: "males who identify as females". 4/ kcgop.org/non-partisan...

King County Voters Guide
Candidates listed below were selected as the Best Choice in each race to represent our voters on issues like taxes, public safety, and traditional values.
We collected input from our 17 Legislative District Organizations, representing all regions in King County. Other factors included public records, media reports, and online presence, as well as candidate website and statements. We emailed our Non-Partisan Candidate Survey to the more than 200 candidates in the primary for a chance to speak directly to our voters.
Read Candidate Q&A Here
Candidates listed below may or may not be affiliated with the Republican Party. "Endorsed" candidates have qualified for a higher level of recommendation. If a ballot position is missing it means we didn't feel confident in making a recommendation or didn't have sufficient information.

What is your stance on taxes? How would you propose funding programs specifically for the office you are running for?

What areas do you see where tax savings could be made or cut?
How would you propose to support public safety efforts once in office?
+
What are your thoughts on allowing trans students assigned male at birth to play in girls' school sports and use girls' restrooms and locker rooms?

Catie Malik
Kirkland City Council, Position 3:

We do not need any new taxes. We need to be more responsible with our current tax revenue. Before funding new programs we need to look at expected outcomes and be able to measure success. If the new programs are not meeting the metric for success, we would need a time frame to make adjustments to meet the metric and after that, if it is not working and our money would be better spent elsewhere. I would also look at what we are currently spending money on and get a definition of success for those programs as well. If they are not delivering as expected, I would cut those programs as well.

We need to ensure we have hired enough Fire Fighters and Police Officers based on national benchmarks. We also need to prosecute crime. We have all seen if there is not a deterrent crime rates go up. As a healthcare administrator, I would look at other cities best practices to find proven methods of public safety to utilize in our city as well.

Its not ok. It is non of my business what you chose to identify, but biological males should not compete against females in sports. It is unethical. Furthermore, giving them access to the girls restrooms and locker rooms does not leave our young women feeling safe and secure. We can find alternatives for those males who identify as females to have a safe environment for them that does not compromise the safety and security of the females.

Hot take: it is both sexist & transphobic for Google to make it impossible to EITHER change your email address OR export all your shit and then import it into a new Google account. Changing names is NOT a weird use case, it is an extremely normal human activity that tech companies should cope with.

There’s been deserved disgust and ridicule for RFK’s bizarre idea of what autism is. But there are disabled children for whom the below is true. RFK is saying their lives are worth less. People like my brother are worth less. This is plain, overt eugenics. Antivax is and has always been eugenicism.

Reminders: "Concentration camps" aren't the same as "extermination camps." Both were/are horrific. Most Nazi camps were *outside Germany*, away from the eyes of German citizens. Those trains? Were to, uh, deport the category of people whose lives were deemed unimportant. Never again is now.

Excluding trans girls from sports on the basis that it is not fair to cis girls is like saying that ballet dancers with unusually strong tendons should have their tendons forcibly damaged so that people with more tendency toward injury can have a fair shot. Which sounds ridic cuz it is!!!!!

The idea that there should be a public debate about the appropriate medical care for a minuscule population of children remains one of the most absurd lies that these liberal transphobes, NYT edit board included, tell themselves. No there shouldn’t! It’s not an appropriate matter for public debate!
It should be recognized that society is still grappling with the cultural and policy implications of the rapidly shifting understanding of gender. There are some issues - such as participation in sports and appropriate medical care for minors - that remain fiercely debated, even by those who broadly support trans rights. There should be room for those conversations. But what shouldn't be debated is whether the government should target a group of Americans to be stripped of their freedom and dignity to move through the world as they choose. This is a campaign in which cruelty and humiliation seem to be the fundamental point.

Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Finally got my skulls set up in the new apartment 😍
On top of a bookshelf, five skulls arrayed left to right from smallest braincase to largest. They are, if you care to know, a Paranthropus, a Homo habilis, a Homo erectus, a Neanderthal and a modern human. On the next shelf down is another Neanderthal skull, this one Shanidar 1. There are also varius knicknacks, including a Nataraja statue, a kids' My First Mosque toy, a color coded plastic human skull, and a painting of an adventurer battling a snakelike monster.
