I am a reader in this campaign, & will be reading @leilanifarha.bsky.social’s HOUSING INC. Will you sponsor me? Fantastic read that covers the personal experience of *home*—currently endangered b/c of the industrial complex of corporatism, rentier capital, and privatization. All proceeds to CPI 🧡🧡🧡

I don’t know how much damage to jobs, the environment or humanity AI will do but neither it seems do the experts, many of whom are worried. The precautionary principle demands that we tread carefully. The democratic principle demands that workers and citizens have a voice-the voice-in how we proceed.

To save Canada, Mark Carney is courting foreign money. He’s risking an ‘investment invasion’
The care economy is looking tempting to foreign investors but that mustn’t be used as a reason to privatize sectors like health.

There’s more than one way to lose sovereignty. We could negotiate it away or we could sell it to the highest bidder. Ownership matters.

So many Canadians seem ready to accept policies from this government they would normally fiercely oppose. Worth rereading the literature on disaster capitalism or chapter 9 of Breaking Free of Neoliberalism in Trump Times. (After reading 1 to 8.)

We will be tempted to judge the investment by the big $ amounts but the more important question is does the $ drive shared prosperity or does it capture key assets and capacity and undermine sovereignty.

“Investors are drawn to the care sector by the promise of reliable growth and revenues, as provinces resist spending more, creating a temptation for private capital to rush in as public dollars pull back” sounds great! Same old dangerously stupid neolib ideas.

What do we give up and what do we become when we spend more than we have ever contemplated on the military. We are giving up on peacekeeping which we virtually invented, cutting aid and diplomacy. What are the implications of the militarization of our economy and foreign policy?

How does our decision making change when we ask not just will it contribute to gdp growth (or private profit) but will it contribute to public value. What kinds of investment, for example, contribute to our sovereignty, increase productive capacity, create union jobs, keep wealth in Canada?

Decades of neoliberalism have blinded our leaders to the range of tools at our disposal to build a less dependent, more democratic, equitable, sustainable Canada - if they were crucial to our sovereignty and security or to the public good even if not privately profitable.
