It's kind of crazy that the Natalie Harp news cycle raised some extremely valid questions about the extent of her influence on our octogenarian narcoleptic, none were answered and the press just stopped wondering.

Everyone should vote. Democrats may do well. But neither of those facts alters the reality of what the 2026 midterms are: a rigged event under assault by a fascist, his regime, and his foreign allies.

Been reading some strident arguments for LLM usage from fairly high-profile writers this week, and I keep thinking about this post I wrote a few months ago. I cannot imagine publicly carrying water for a military contractor, simply because you like the emails it helps you write.
Screenshot of an excerpt from the linked blog post. Excerpt reads, “ And I don’t just mean monetarily. It’s not lost on me that these commercial “AI” platforms improve by learning. Well, “learning” is too anthropomorphic a verb: these large language models analyze user input, and may be trained on the data we feed them. And as I’ve read about the opening days of this pointless, stupid, awful, horrifying war, I couldn’t help but think that the everyday use of these machines is quite literally enhancing them.”Screenshot of an excerpt from the linked blog post. Excerpt reads, “ None of this is new, of course. Microsoft’s “AI” products were used by Israel’s military to surveil Palestinians; the 2018 Google Walkouts were driven in part by employees protesting Google’s machine learning contributions to drone strikes; during the height of the Vietnam War, tech workers were mobilizing against the industry’s embrace of defense contracts. But today, we cannot meaningfully separate the everyday use of ‘AI’ platforms from their application in death and war. Imagine asking Northrop Grumman to summarize an email for you, or refactoring code with help from Boeing and Raytheon.”

The US has 8 hot spots. There are major outbreaks in central/east Texas (high/very high), southern Florida (high/very high), and Guam (very high). Note, 0 of 62 sites in Harris County, TX (Houston) reported this week, so the “very low” levels may be over-optimistic (2 of 8 sites “very high” last week, with 5 of 8 rising). These counties have isolated hot spots: Alameda (Bay Area), California (high); Larimer (Fort Collins), Colorado (very high); Jasper, South Carolina (high); Cabarrus (Concord), North Carolina (very high); and Ulster (Kingston), New York (very high).
