I wish we had had any IPE when I was there (especially since I teach it now). Maybe I'll give myself a mini class with your syllabus over winter break? It looks fantastic!

Since 9/11, I have found life in feminist anti-authoritarian, anti-military, anti-carceral thought. I write about it in my book, The Future That Was, from Women Living Under Muslim Laws who declared "vengeance is not justice" 10 days after 9/11 to the defiant mourning of June Jordan in November 2001

I also love how suddenly some scholars care about academic freedom to support the free speech of a white supremacist while so many of us are facing all kinds of troubles from disciplinary actions to losing jobs over Palestine. 😒 seriously, fuck them, fuck #cofnas and yes Free Palestine.

Getting all my political talking points from the comments of the pro wrestling subreddit from now on.
There have been more school shootings in the 2026-2027 school year (which started last week) than there are transgender athletes competing. This is a nothing issue pushed by nothing people while the rich continue to rob us blind.

Enshittification, a case study. Last week, to print – hit print, it prints This week – hit print, hit print again, go to the printer, log in with id # (card tapping doesn’t work), change the print from color to b/w so you don’t get charged, hit the back arrow twice, hit print and it prints

It's like an old-school C/communist argument, conflating democracy with capitalism (not always incorrect) but then asserting that the opposite is true, with authoritarian nationalism leading to Marxist liberation Also, people are always participants in economic life

While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.

Did you hear about the DC July 4 fireworks show? It promises 850,000 fireworks in 40 minutes. That's 354 per second. You'll miss up to 142 of them every time you blink. For your edutainment, I proudly present the nerdiest thing you will read about this dangerously absurd / absurdly dangerous event.

Three Hundred Fifty-Four Fireworks per Second — Chad M. Topaz
Organizers promise 850,000 fireworks in roughly 40 minutes over the National Mall this Saturday. I did what a mathematician does with a big number: I divided. It did not make the show look better.

also, when you introduce violent language into a discussion about something substantive, you shift the focus away from the substantively important thing we're discussing and toward disavowing your beliefs. this is both tedious and some real wrecker behavior.

This ”debate“ is happening again and I feel there’s another way, different conclusions, that will allow you to recognize the dangers of development ideology, practice, institution —which include how its rapid dismantling and resulting damage/devastation are partly what makes it dangerous

And while many rural regions vote "red", often just under half the population is supportive of these leaders. For those of us with the money/career/inclination and looser family ties, it's easier to move, but "choosing" to live rurally isn't always a choice.

Carrie Reiling @careiling.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
These people don't know me, nor I them, but I really wish liberals and leftists from urban/suburban areas could get a grip about rural areas. Land doesn't vote. But rural residents deserve basic rights and services. Rural poverty looks very different from urban.

Carrie Reiling @careiling.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
Again, it's not about the math. Living in a rural area is fundamentally different, and saddling individuals with systemic failures is not okay.
