another one of these bs gender performance/toxic masculinity games the GOP has been running re this candidate, that’s the important takeaway (Btw one of my friends who was at the time vegan, often noted that as a spanglish speaker she liked to call it ‘vagan’ ‘cause VEEgan sounded weird to her)

a lot of very annoying men have been going on about “restoring trust” in universities, by which they mean increasing “viewpoint diversity,” by which they mean privileging evidence-free conservative beliefs. but it seems like a bigger deal that students and faculty can’t trust their school this way:

You then lean on the antitrust-exemption the NFL currently enjoys in order to get them to pool money for all the schools who need to fill in the gaps to remain competitive, to create a now recognized minor league for the NFL (as opposed to the current de-facto recognition of college sports as a sub)

Let me give you the actual solution to this problem. Universities and colleges have to hire football players as union employees (AFL-CIO, same as the NFL), with no requirement to attend school. They get health and retirement benefits, and are limited to a five year employment contract.

Given the very existence of the student-athlete category was to ensure no labor protections for these workers… you know what would be amazing for federal oversight? How about coaches needing to have some qualifications and credentials that prioritize athletic workers’ safety? coach salary caps?

Exceptional solidarity from ASU hockey players who have demanded their coach be placed on leave for essentially overseeing the murder of their teammate and have disputed the university’s findings. www.nytimes.com/athletic/764...
Seven Arizona State men’s hockey players asked the university’s president to place the Sun Devils’ coaching staff on administrative leave pending further investigation into the workout that left sophomore transfer Matthew Mayich on life support.

In a 26-page letter sent to ASU president Michael Crow on Monday and obtained by The Athletic, the players disputed numerous findings from the university’s initial review of the Aug. 20 workout, writing that Mayich did not receive water and was provided inadequate medical care after his collapse.
