Planning to head down to ReconciliACTION Oak Bay's all candidate forum tonight. Not much candidate activity so far on Bluesky (but then 1 council candidate doesn't even have a website 🤷🏼‍♀️) - but we'll see if we can share out some key pieces for folks who couldn't make it! #yyjpoli #OakBayBC #bcpoli

It's so exciting to have a progressive mayoral candidate in Oak Bay! Sam Holland shares my values and priorities of attracting family doctors to our community, adding housing, and addressing climate change. oakbaynews.com/2026/09/17/n...
A photo of Sam Holland, a young white man with curly light brown hair and glasses. He is smiling and sitting in a casual, forward position. He's wearing jeans and a corduroy button-down open over a white t-shirt, and the backdrop of the photo is a plywood wall.

The myth Alberta 'subsidizes' the rest of Canada is the most powerful meme in the separatist armoury. But it's utterly false. I show that most Albertans get more back from federal programs than they personally pay in federal taxes, for @thetyee.ca: thetyee.ca/Opinion/2026... #abpoli /2

Brad Bradford says that 50% of roadway cannot be allocated to 1% of users. Good thing it isn't. Only about 1% of all of Toronto's road space is allocated to bike lanes. I showed my work, and used Danforth (the lanes he fought so hard to get added) as an example.

I’m going to be canvassing around Carnarvon Park this week, a significant public space that needs to be renovated But after years of discussion and with the design almost finalized, last week Council came very close to sending the project back to the drawing board. Let me tell you about it …

Hey American friends, help spread the word: Canada has an immigration stream for HC workers. "For Tyson, the targeted recruitment worked. It took him just 3 months to get his B.C. nursing licence through a fast-track process, and 8 days to receive a provincial nomination for permanent residence."

just heard gasoline is apparently quite expensive these days and was thinking, huh, maybe people should buy less of it? but then i check the top-selling vehicles in the US and am mystified. clearly, buying less gasoline is nobody's priority, least of all US car makers and their customers.

My 12yo son, dressed in running shoes, sweatpants, a puffy coat, and a Santa hat over his bike helmet, pauses with his bike on a snowy sidewalk to admire a giant Santa inflatable in front of a house. Granted, this is December in Toronto, not January - but the principle is the same.

My hot take on drivers encountering any vulnerable road user is that even if cyclists/ pedestrians etc aren’t following the law they still don’t deserve to be hit/injured/killed or honked at and actually should be yielded to in most situations. This is unpopular opinion in our society sadly.

Disappointed to see Jon Stewart & co joke about masking in public. I do it for my medically fragile daughter (Batten Disease). People not masking properly led to her getting pneumonia, which led to her being on life support, which led to me getting price quotes on her cremation just in case.
A screenshot of an episode of The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart with captions that read:

Tim Miller: Well, it's a progressive outlet, so there are a couple of people wearing masks.

Jon Stewart: Oh, there's always two. And you always say, "Oh, are you sick?"

And they go, "Uh, I don't want to talk about it."

1/ This Times Colonist letter is sadly typical of the uninformed nonsense that too many people seem to believe. Beyond the ignorance (nobody on Council has EVER suggested to "abolish street parking"), it denotes a kind of all-or-nothing reasoning that makes no sense to me. #yyj
A screenshot. It reads:

The age of automobile is not over yet

Victoria city council would like to abolish street parking. Council wants fewer cars on the streets of Victoria. Their reasoning does not make sense.

They compare Victoria with cities such as Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto, which have light rail transit.

These modes of transportation move people from airports, train stations and outlying areas quickly, therefore no need for a lot of cars. Victoria is a tourist city, people come from all over the Island and the world. How do these people get around from one place to another?

Sure, there are buses and bicycles, but you can’t expect elderly or disabled persons to bike ride.

If tourists want to visit other places on the Island, they will need a car.

We need to accommodate or lose local businesses due to the loss of tourists.

When you consider the potential for Canada to be a powerhouse in geothermal energy ($2.3T mkt), modular house building, energy conservation, EV auto manufacturing, cleantech, it’s depressing to see Cdn political leaders focus on a 20th C energy. Must read. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/07/15/a...

Canada keeps backing the wrong megaprojects
History shows us energy megaprojects often have three things in common: underestimated budgets, exaggerated jobs and royalty claims, and foreign ownership.
