Hey #yyj! Meant Well Books, a cute new bookshop, opened today in Estevan Village. Go check it out! They already operate a book truck, and this bricks-and-mortar store looks like a lovely addition to the neighbourhood. #VictoriaBC www.meantwellbooks.com

We had a wonderful all-candidates forum tonight, organized by the Community Association of Oak Bay. Here’s my parting sentiment: I think I was a bit more eloquent, but this is an excellent summary. #yyjpoli #OakBayBC

I am so grateful to everyone who’s been supporting my campaign—delivering flyers and signs, making donations, hosting or attending meet-and-greets, giving their perspectives on local issues, or even just being a friendly face at the door. But Shyla here gets the Goodest Girl Award.

Our first all-candidates meeting, focusing on truth & reconciliation. It was wonderful to be able to speak on some important questions and to hear many candidates go beyond platitudes. #yyjpoli

In the @victoriadra.bsky.social Mayoral Debate, Bruce McGuigan opposed municipal action to reduce carbon pollution. "We're not going to fix the planet... changes... are completely out of our control." The new climate denialism! Link to quote at 1:04 youtu.be/UE6TQlqsNzg?... #yyj

In 2022 Oak Bay’s voter turnout for the municipal elections was 32%. I hope that having more than one mayoral candidate this time around will bring more people to the polls!

Correct. The City doesn't have legal authority to compel a private sector entity (business or non-profit) to start anything or keep doing it. We can help and facilitate and get out of the way when good things are proposed, like this one.

Let’s talk climate change and get nerdy about CO2 emissions for a minute! Since 2007, BC municipalities have been required to calculate and report their annual CO2 emissions. So let’s look at the data for Oak Bay and our two neighbouring municipalities, shall we? #yyjpoli

I’m not going to complain about the provincial election happening at the same time as the municipal elections … but now that I’ve watched the full press conference I can’t say I’m impressed by how Eby dodged questions about the overlap not once, not twice, but three times. #bcpoli #yyjpoli

We need a lot more street trees shading people in public spaces, as well as heat pumps in homes and public buildings, and a lot less extraction and burning of fossil fuels. The deadly 2021 heat dome was just a symptom of what fossil fuels are doing to our home. #bcpoli #ubcm26

If I can be sappy for a moment: I’ve been so touched by all of the old friends and new friends who have stepped up to help. Campaigning is hard, and you all make it so much easier.

Canvassing in South Oak Bay yesterday, I talked to two super-informed voters who had suggestions about how to diversify housing options in Oak Bay. More choice means a more vibrant community, more seniors who can stay in Oak bay, more young adults building their lives here.

I’m going to be canvassing around Carnarvon Park this week, a significant public space that needs to be renovated But after years of discussion and with the design almost finalized, last week Council came very close to sending the project back to the drawing board. Let me tell you about it …

BC municipal elections are held October 17. A reminder that voters need only select the councillors they want, & do not need to pick a full slate of 6 councillors. Your ballot is not spoiled. Don't reward incumbent councillors who have consistently voted against your priorities at council meetings.
