This afternoon we took our bikes to the park and practiced big astronaut steps on our bikes. Then we went on the seesaw and the roundabout, and then on our bikes again. Our gliding is coming along nicely when we remember to keep our bottom on the saddle.
A two year old toddler wearing a pale blue helmet and sitting on a pink balance bike with black wheels. Next to her is an adult sitting on an orange Brompton bike (a folding bike with small wheels). Both have their backs to the camera, and are on a tarmac path in a park.

The sentencing guidelines (see thread) include a presumption against lifetime driving bans, which is bonkers. But occasionally they do happen. (This driver also got jail time).

Astonishing achievement by volunteers who swung into action to clear up after the Tyne nurdle spill, whilst official bodies and those responsible faffed around doing nothing. It's painstaking work, sifting washed up nurdles out of the sand. Unfortunately still lots to clear up.

Pedestrian islands are not refuges. They don't slow down drivers, & they leave pedestrians in a hazard or place. If there's space for a pedestrian island, there's space to widen the pavements, narrow the carriageway, and install a raised crossing.

Can confirm drivers still haven’t figured out that repeatedly overtaking a cyclist averaging 15mph in an urban environment is fruitless as they will catch you up at the next set of traffic lights every time.

In 10 miles from Starbeck to Weeton: 1 breach of Keep Left whilst overtaking me. 1 close pass & then immediately braking for a right turn (anchors on for me). 1 mobile phone in front of face whilst overtaking me at a junction. I'll be reporting them all to the police.

Anecdotally, I think there are more people cycling in Sheffield, including more people (particularly families) using cargo bikes. A quick snap from this morning: just 4 of the many people on bikes that I saw.
Four people on bikes (2 e-bikes, 1 e-cargo bike, 1 analogue bike) stopped at traffic lights on a sunny day.

100 years ago today: A cyclist replies to a motorist's complaint that cyclists don't pay road tax and cycle two or more abreast, holding up drivers. How things have changed.
MOTORISTS AND ROADS
MAY I humbly point out to your correspon-dent, Colin M. G. Ross, that were in existence before motoring commenced, and if only cyclists had used them they would probably have lasted for ever? It was the ad-vent of motor-cars that made a tax neces-sary owing to their destructiveness.
With regard to cyclists riding three and four abreast, this is the exception, not the rule; and the practice is usually confined to irresponsible local youths.
Cyclists as a rule never ride more than two abreast and are quite willing to ride single file where the road is narrow, but they cannot fade away for every motor-horn.

Bikes bikes bikes! (and some scooters) This isn't even all of them. 50 people used the organised bike bus to travel to this community event, and more came separately. But apparently nobody cycles in Sheffield because it's too hilly.
A LOT of bicycles of all shapes and sizes parked on the grass under a tree. It includes tiny kids' bikes, teenagers' bikes, adult bikes, and some cargo bikes. A very long chain is laid out in the ground for people to lock their bikes to.A blue gazebo a man under it working on a bike. Several more bikes are hanging from a stand, waiting for work.More bikes: two cargo bikes in the foreground, and in the distance some more bikes locked to a signpost in the park.Three cute little kids' scooters (red, purple and blue) lined up in a row in amongst the bikes, with helmets hanging from their handlebars.

As I was near-ish, I made a small diversion to Lembas to stock up on laundry liquid and a few other bits. 5 litres of laundry liquid in 1 pannier, and all the rest in the other. E-bike to help get it up the hill home. I wouldn't have done it in the car (too much faffing through queuing traffic).
Contents of a shopping trolley: a 5 litre bulk container of laundry liquid, a large box of dishwasher tablets, a box of bio washing powder, two boxes of laundry bleach, a retail outer of Nakd bars, a 1kg bag of nice muesli, a 1kg bag of raisins, and a tin of Cafedirect instant coffee. The contents of the shopping trolley now distributed between the pannier bags on the back of a bicycle.

What I find striking is her linking this with previous racist movements and not pretending it’s something that’s just spawned from the ether. It’s the same ideas, often the same people, but in racing to legitimise the movement it’s a link that many - e.g. the government, the BBC - cannot make.
