the use of “performative” as an insult here is why these people are losing their primaries. yes, voters want you to perform their anger and disgust! they want representatives to represent their symbolic interests! the idea that good representation is necessarily quiet and unobtrusive is wrong!

1. Congressman Mike Collins, the GOP nominee for US Senate in Georgia, has spent over $400,000 of taxpayer money designated for office expenses on TV ads that are virtually indistinguishable from his campaign ads.

The Dem establishment and Dem centrists can wring their hands and complain about the results in Colorado. Or they can learn a lesson: Their repudiation was in large part about their perceived unwillingness to stand up firmly and unhesitatingly to Trump. So start doing so!

About Trump v. Barbara: Do not give the Court and the CJ credit for reading and upholding the Constitution. It's a travesty that this is not a unanimous decision... it's also a travesty that the Court let this question percolate for a year, giving credence to a crank theory of citizenship.

It’s important to understand that the Court is now just an arm of the oligarchy. This decision strips the people of the right to limit the role of money in politics. It gives billionaires special rights to buy our elections. A precondition of oligarchy.

Full statement by NPR Editor in Chief Tommy Evans on retracted Alito story
Due to a misunderstanding, NPR’s Supreme Court and Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg incorrectly reported that Justice Samuel Alito had retired. Neither Justice Alito nor the Supreme Court Public Information Office has announced his retirement. As soon as the error was realized, the story was retracted and removed from NPR’s website and an on-air correction was broadcast. We regret the error and any confusion this may have caused. This afternoon, Mrs. Totenberg will appear on All Things Considered to explain what happened. She has reached out to Justice Alito to apologize.

Obvious lies about the reflecting pool, and a pathetic excuse. But still, it strikes me that even with their imagined story, the *defense* is that Trump is so incompetent he couldn't even protect downtown DC, not even for the president's special project with additional deployed security forces.

Klein's description of the Dayton video is also surreal. To support the lie that Haitians were eating dogs in Springfield, Rufo pushed a video of Congolese men "grilling cats" in Dayton. (It was likely chicken.) That was close enough for Rufo. It was always about dehumanizing Black immigrants.

The new racist double standard set up by Alito in the TPS ruling: if there’s any other motive in addition to the racism, the racism doesn’t count, but if the state wants to *prevent* discrimination against black people, that is racist and unconstitutional www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
The Roberts Court has been turning anti-discrimination law upside down for years. Its approach came into particular focus in May, with Louisiana v. Callais, in which it determined that not allowing Louisiana’s government to dilute Black votes was racist. In that case, Alito insisted that forcing the state to draw a second majority-Black congressional district would be an “unconstitutional racial gerrymander” because Republicans were entitled to discriminate against Black voters if they argued that their purpose was partisan instead of racist. The Court reaffirmed that position in a subsequent case dealing with Alabama, after a lower court had found ample evidence of deliberate racial discrimination, as opposed to the discriminatory effect of the Louisiana map.

Mullin now sets up an even more impossible double standard. If the government wants to discriminate against Black people, any pretext will do. “As long as there is a plausible basis—any plausible articulable basis—for the government’s action, then the Court will look to that basis as sufficient,” Aderson Francois, a law professor at Georgetown University, told me, “even in the face of evidence that government actors were motivated by animus.” If a Black person wants to prove they’ve been discriminated against, however, no amount of evidence will suffice.

The big papers all ignored the Gillibrand story. Big mistake, since corrupting people through their family is an old trick that is very popular crypto strategy these days. Just ask the Trumps.
Semafor: The still-evolving deal is not expected to cover the president's adult children, people familiar with the talks told Semafor on Wednesday, even though most of the Trumps' crypto business is conducted by his sons and, as a result, would likely remain mostly unaffected. A Democratic staffer involved in the talks said "there's no way" for lawmakers to write the adult children into the legislation, noting that "there's not a single ethics rule or law that does so."
