Rest in peaches, Wendell Berry. And because I am not as well adjusted as he: God dammit, cosmos, take the destroyers and leave us the artists.
A Meeting

In a Dream I meet
my dead friend. He has,
I know, gone long and far,
and yet he is the same
for the dead are changeless.
They grow no older.
It is I who have changed,
grown strange to what I was.
Yet I, the changed one,
ask: "How you been?"
He grins and looks at me.
"I been eating peaches
off some mighty fine trees."

This is a point I made in my recent piece for @renewaljournal.bsky.social - when it comes to the current cast of characters who dominate politics, anyone who hasn’t been listening to QAA, True Anon, Chapo, etc is playing serious catch-up. Constant shock @ known stuff. renewal.org.uk/articles/in-...
From social media’s margins, left-wing ‘shitposters’1 have long replied to jour-
nalists’ encomia to Mandelson with the infamous photographs of him alongside
Epstein. Listeners to podcasts such as True Anon, Chapo Trap House, and The
QAA Podcast (formally, QAnon Anonymous) were familiar with Epstein’s British
elite connections. As outlined below, enough evidence to warrant an investiga-
tion into both Mandelson’s and Mountbatten-Windsor’s private dealings with
Epstein while in public office had been evident since 2023 at the latest. From
this vantage point, the professed shock of broadsheet columnists and elected
politicians felt less like surprise and more like gaslighting.
Many in the media treated any mention of Epstein’s association with British
power as conspiracy theory. Such narrowing of reasoned public discourse was
made easier because these concerns were largely voiced by people already
dismissed as ‘unserious’: ‘dirtbag’ podcasters, unapologetic left-wingers such
as Zarah Sultana, and the aforementioned social media shitposters. The whole
episode ultimately revealed a cognitive failure amongst the class of people paid
to understands and explain politics: an inability, or unwillingness, to recognise
the role of elite networks in politics and situate events within them. In short, a
deficit of healthy concern about political conspiracies.
Anxiety about conspiracism is understandable. From anti-vaccine activism to
the seepage of ‘great replacement’ rhetoric into mainstream politics, the harms
associated with disinformation have been turbocharged by the Internet age. For
most of the democratic left, the reflex is instinctive: defend reason, pluralism,
and a healthy public sphere against the paranoid style in politics. Yet in the
rush to repudiate fantasy and defeat hatred, serious analysis of real conspiracy
has too often been dismissed. The result, as the Epstein affair illustrates, is an
incomplete grasp of politics as it actually operates, and a vacuum readi

"The works of the roots of the vines, of the trees, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest. bitterest thing of all. Carloads of oranges dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the fruit. but this could not be. How would thev buy oranges at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. A million people hungry, needing the fruit- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains. And the smell of rot fills the country. Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people fron fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.
There is a crime here that goes bevond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The ertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdv trunks, and the ripe fruit. And childrer dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and he guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, bu the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float bv, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people here is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."

how adults colonize every third space and remove young people — including the Internet link: dragon-in-a-fez.tumblr.com/post/8134647...
"keep thinking about how I wrote in my dissertation about how every time a new form of public/social space emerges it’s immediately popular with kids and teenagers who see it as a chance at freedom and then adults colonise it and kick them out. this happened with malls in the 80s and diners in the 50s and pool halls in the 20s. my dad was doing research on this trend in like 1975. and I was like “yeah so this is going to happen to the internet” and then five years later every government suddenly decided to ban kids from everywhere online. I hate being right especially when I don’t even get paid for it"

Take a look at this insane image the Illinois College Republicans posted and then read their statement about how they're not trying to excuse or glorify violence.
ONLY TRAITORS HELP INVADERS

Image of a masked federal agent with a gun at the back of a kneeling defenseless man who looks like Alex PrettiIn regard to a question about whether the stylized graphic of an officer holding a gun to someone’s head glorifies or valorizes the killings, the RSO wrote that “the image is, in fact, not intended to target nor incentivize violence against a particular party.”

They added that “There is no labeling in the graphic, and there are no identifying features. In short, people are going to take away whatever they want, but reasonably this graphic does not glorify nor valorize any incident because it lacks any reasonable connection.”

The group stated it does not “endorse violence nor discrimination towards anyone based on their identification with a specific protected group,” and that the groups message is that it supports “the enforcement of the law and those who enforce it.”

I say this honestly and seriously: ICE agents are monsters. The process of dehumanization matches Newton's Third Law: every act of denying humanity, of ginning yourself up to commit atrocities, of convincing and being convinced that others must be subjugated and/or killed, rebounds.

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time. Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief. Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time. Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

A friendly reminder that no ICE officer has ever been killed in the line of duty in a hostile incident. The industries that illegal immigrants often work in — like landscaping and construction — are far more deadly and dangerous work than being an ICE officer.

Rolling out the Matt Christman quote from after Charlottesville (2017) again:
And that's what these guys are, these guys that marched in Charlottesville, these are the people who are aware of the unspoken premise of this sort of zombie neoliberalism that we're living in, which is that we're coming to a point where there's gonna be ecological catastrophe, and that it's gonna require either massive redistribution of the ill-gotten gains of the first world, or genocide.
And these are the first people who have basically said, "Well if that's the choice, then I choose genocide",
", and they're getting everyone else
ready, intellectually and emotionally, for why that's gonna be okay when it happens, why they're not really people. When we're putting all this money into more fucking walls and drones and bombs and guns to keep them away, so that we can watch them die with clear consciences, it's because we've been loaded with the ideology that these guys are now starting to express publicly.
