Illustration of a Standard-winged Nightjar doing a display flight in front of a big beautiful glowing full moon. The nightjar, a mottled gray/brown/white bird, has long pointed wingtips, a short stubby beak, and a big black eye. It is flying with wings bent low in an upside-down U shape while wiggling its strange "standards" - elongated huge shiny black primaries that bend upward from the wings and look like black pointed flags.

Illustration of a set of European Herring Gulls lined up in front of a gray sea. All of the adults are blurred, either close to or far from the "camera", leaving a juvenile in focus with its beak open to the sky as it calls out. The adults are snowy white and pale gray with bright yellow bills, but the juvenile has a black bill, mottled pale gray head and breast, and extensive brown-gray mottling all over the wings and back.

Finally saw #Spiderman today. Lots of cool stuff in that movie. I loved how they handled Peter being out of balance, expressed through his powers. I was spoiled about who Sadie Sink was playing before going in, but her actual role in the movie was not what I expected. Very enjoyable overall.

I have slightly revised my opinion. While I still want @mapquest.com to recognize lat/long coordinates, "dealbreaker" was a bit harsh. I've been using MapQuest when I just need to get to an address, and I'm only opening fascist #Apple Maps (very begrudgingly) when I need to navigate to coordinates.

Gloria Steinem taught America that sexism is a symptom of a system that can be changed.

From the fight for equal pay to abortion access and political representation, she showed that progress comes when people organize, build power and refuse to accept inequality as inevitable.

She staged protests, established domestic violence shelters, created a magazine owned and operated entirely by women and helped build a movement that fundamentally changed this country.

Her legacy is the millions of people she inspired to believe that a more just world was possible.

She lived in New York for 70 years. We were lucky to have her. We mourn her loss and will carry her work forward.

Fuck you #Apple, you fucking cowards. @mapquest.com I would really love to switch to your app, but the fact that lat/long coordinates don’t work in search is a dealbreaker. This is absolutely mandatory functionality for me (for work in particular).

Sometimes society at large rejects certain ideas because they’ve been thoroughly shown to be wrong and also because they suck and the people who espouse them suck and when someone comes around arguing those ideas should be part of some edgy modern debate we can and should shun them and move on.

A lot of what's written in this article is true, with Trump giving or withholding federal funds depending on whether the recipient state voted for him or for Harris. But that is absolutely not why the Democratic National Committee is broke. It's broke because voters won't donate to non-fighters.🤷🏿‍♂️

Holy COW. Text analysis of comments on the OMB rule: overwhelming opposition, overwhelmingly not form letters. (But 9 in 10 comments supporting the rule ARE form responses, LOL) Whatever happens next, folks have stepped up.
Screenshot text: Between May 29 and July 9, roughly 51,000 comments were posted to regulations.gov (and over 200,000 more had been received but not yet published). The verdict on public sentiment is clear and lopsided: about 94 percent oppose the proposed rule and only 6 percent support it, with fewer than one percent marked as unclear. The opposition is overwhelmingly grassroots rather than orchestrated. Form letters make up only about 16 percent of all comments (roughly 8,400 comments across 210 distinct campaigns), and only about one in eight opposing comments came from a form-letter campaign. Support for the rule, by contrast, was almost entirely organized: nearly nine in ten supportive comments (about 2,500) came from a single form-letter campaign. Opponents mostly wrote their own comments; supporters mostly signed the same form-letter.
