Colleagues - we need to fix this. Journals already face a flood of low-quality manuscripts and struggle to recruit reviewers. We have the tools to avoid sending out articles in which authors make serious mistakes, misrepresent their actions, or use AI for writing in inappropriate ways.

Cook Political Report just shifted the Kansas Senate race from Lean Republican to Toss Up. Trump won Kansas by 16 points, 57-41. Hard to know what to make of this, but it sure looks as if there are now many paths to a Dem majority.

One surprising thing from the Trump era is the level of cowardness and capitulation exhibited by institutions of power. Even in the face of evidence that pushback works and that the law is on their side, they continue to fall in line. It's a stain that will be hard to erase from history.

Like national race forecasters, analysts of state legislative races are relatively timid in seeing opportunities for wave election pickups. But if the generic ballot shifts 12 points, with both differential partisan turnout & a large swing, it suggests many unexpected pickups

They manage to make it feel tucked away, private, cozy. (These are all from Sluseholmen, my dream neighborhood.)

Lots of talk since 2024 among certain consultants about how the Electoral College gets hopeless for Dems after 2030 when the "blue wall" Midwest states no longer have enough votes to deliver an EC majority. But all EC bias predictions depend on Texas being a close but dependable Republican state.
I did some back of the envelope Electoral College math and the GOPs advantage depends entirely on Texas. If Texas is no longer reliably red, the Dems have a clear advantage going forward

To be clear, the statement itself is anodyne - every new tech has downsides. More than 35,000 Americans die in car accidents annually! We literally "accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having agency." Obviously it depends on what the "bad things" are!

Yeah, this is good. People should realize that survey research folks try hard to learn from what happens in each cycle - and then on top of that polling methods have been changing a fair amount. So while some errors will happen, they're not especially likely to be the *same* errors.

Chart of Siena poll results in five governor's races, showing each candidate's estimated support with margin-of-error bars. Democrats lead in Iowa (Sand 52%, Lahn 41%), Alaska (Kreiss-Tomkins 52, Wilson 48), Texas (Hinojosa 49, Abbott 46) and Ohio (Acton 49, Ramaswamy 45). The Republican leads in Kansas (Masterson 49, Holscher 44)
