Too many words, too few pictures. (And too little talent!) Thrilled by the artistry and beauty of images -- principally #landscapephotography -- shared by the Bluesky community of photographers, and so grateful to be able to appreciate and enjoy them.

Happy Wednesday folks. Some lumpy hills this morning, I've run out of waterfalls 😆 #LandscapePhotography #Landscape #Photography #Sunrise

Some cool light rays over Grand Canyon Cape Royale… Funny story about this shot is I ended there by total coincidence. Full story in ALT. #bluesky #photography #nature #art #landscape #light #travel
Divine light over the mesmerizing reliefs of Grand Canyon.
Story: back in 2019 I took a long roadtrip in Southwest US, mostly in Utah, in middle of summer. After a week, I was literally dying from the heat, so I followed the advice of a random guy I met on one of the spots I visited: going to GC to get some fresh air (higher altitude). But the thing is I had zero plans, no precise locations in mind… So when I arrived in GC I just went around shooting randomly. On that day, I was exploring a spot for sunset but quickly realized it wouldn’t be ideal for sunset light, so I was hesitant about what to do. That’s when I met a local and started to chat with him, then he proposed to take me to a spot that was ideal for sunset. I followed him and ended in that spot. It’s been one of the best shooting I had during the whole trip 😂. Crazy light, beautiful sunset, incredible location. Sometimes having no plan = good plan on the end.

Frozen Textures ❄️ I captured this textural abstract black and white photograph from my drone in the Scottish Highlands. It's not the usual type of capture that does well on social media, but that's okay. I'm sure some of you will enjoy it too 😃 #bnw #nature #photography #abstract #drone
Overhead view of a frozen surface with star-shaped patterns where melting ice has drained into central points. Layers of snow create contrasting textures around the stars, lending a subtle, intricate design to the otherwise white, wintry scene. Cairngorms national park, Scotland

Hidden away on a secluded hill top in the Cairngorms National Park is the Balmoral Pyramid, or Prince Albert's Cairn. This unique structure was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1862 as a tribute to her beloved husband, Prince Albert.

Here be dragons. My favourite photo from the frozen south.
A portrait format photo of a snow cornice that looks a bit like a monster, on top of a peak caught in a beam of sunlight amid swirling blue clouds.

Phobos over Mars Full size: flic.kr/p/2qJrbGD Credit: Processing: Andrea Luck CC BY Raw images: ESA/DLR/FUBerlin @esa.int ESA Mars Express HRSC Orbit 3868 2007-01-10 Filter S13 H3868_0000_S13.IMG Colourised image using data processed from: psa.esa.int My album about Phobos: flic.kr/s/aHBqjAvrQL
An image taken from orbit shows the potato-shaped satellite Phobos orbiting Mars. The perspective places Phobos very close to the Martian limb, above elongated whitish clouds near the terminator. Phobos appears predominantly grey, while the surface of Mars displays tones ranging from rusty red to darker hues near its terminator. Some craters are visible on the surface of Mars, they should be much larger than Phobos. The camera scanning the satellite causes the view of the Martian surface to appear stretched as it moves by.

A reworking of a photo from the Lake District that became my favourite from 2024. I had to make it very different from the original but I think it still holds together. #photography #landscapephotography #photographers #nikon
A complex view of a tarn in the Lake District with branches hanging down in the foreground and a deep red acer bush glowing in the background.

More icebergs at Fellsfjara beach at Jökulsárlón in #Iceland, in October 2021 on a very blustery day.
Sunrise over a beach with some large icebergs sitting on the sandback. They glow gold in the sunrise light. There are waves crashing in the distance and some ripples on the sand in the front.

The ghost of Robert Louis Stevenson.

The bass rock (covered in guano - I mean, bleurgh 🤢 but pretty from a distance), a stand of pines and a small island in the forth.

This to me looks like a mysterious island 🏝️ in the Pacific 🌊 and it must have been seen the same way by Robert Louis Stevenson. As a boy, he stayed in the house where we were having a grand birthday party now, and had taken inspiration for “Treasure Island” from the views he saw there.

That night, after the festivities, I retired to the study of the house with a nice whisky, and sat at an old desk that may have been RLS’s, looking out into the dark where the island lay. I pulled an old edition of “Treasure Island” off the book shelf and under a dimmed light and until well after midnight, I read a few chapters of it once again, as I had as a child.

As I sat reading in his chair, I heard various creaks from the old house and smiling, I imagined R.L.S. was present, enjoying someone appreciating his book almost 130 years after his death. Books can make us immortal.

It was a lovely experience with my imagination captured by both the book and by my peripheral sense of the house being a witness over the centuries. It’s nice to play with a little romanticism sometimes Jim lad.

Time for some ice! To my new followers: I'm rather fond of a place called Jökulsárlón in south-east #Iceland. An enormous glacial lagoon is filled with chunks of ice that calve off the glacier, & flow down a little river where they're dumped on the Fellsfjara beaches. It is quite magnificent :)
Chunks of ice (small bits are called growlers or bergy bits) on a black sand beach. A long exposure photo makes the waves over it all smooth and white. The rest of the sea is grey. Above the sky is a mix of sunrise peachy and cloudy grey. The ice is mostly quite clear but a bit turquoise.

Some nice sun illuminating the spray from a quite rough stretch of coastline in the Faroes. A really tricky shot to edit with the strong contrasts and the waves crashing in. Sadly the waterfall was a bit pathetic too but I did my best! #photography #landscapephotography #photographers #nikon
Tall sea cliffs with the waves crashing in at their base and spray creating some atmosphere as it rises over the cliff tops.
