many centrists are as disdainful of science as MAGA these days. virtually every study on the topic, and there have been many, show that youth programs reduce crime. it's a settled question. this is no different from claiming vaccines are a hoax.

Divest from Harry Potter and JKR, y'all. It's okay to feel sad about no longer engaging with something that meant a lot to you, but a fictional world that funds a very real assault on trans rights will never be more meaningful than caring about the safety of trans folks.

If you identify as a Democrat and you're getting upset by marginalized people pointing out the ways that Democratic candidates have harmed them: 1. Perhaps turn your ire to the candidates instead. 2. Consider *not* identifying with a political party if it keeps you from holding them accountable.

The argument against trains is that our cities are insufficiently dense to support trains, and that is certainly true for many cities at this moment. However, we should not be designing and zoning for this moment. We should be thinking about our infrastructure in thirty years.

How is anyone supposed to trust any politician based on what they say if all they need is some polling data on their positions to after a primary then suddenly have different values and become a different candidate? It is a losing strategy. Or one meant to doom democracy to fascism.

Elites historically (for 1000s of years) pick apart people, turn them on each other and use factional conflicts to weaken any threat to their power. Trans people are our people. Our power is solidarity. Our power is seeing our oppressors clearly. Our power is in organizing us all against them.

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.
