Today the Greens put up our amendment to the government’s escalation pathway bill to finally put clinical human override back in aged care assessments. It was very disappointing to see the Coalition fold, and side with the government to defeat our amendment, and pass this half-measure unchanged.

The ALP have been morphing into monsters for a long, long time. We just didn't notice the gradual change - the foul stench, the razor-sharp teeth, the vacant sociopathic stare. We didn't want to believe that craving for money, and feasting on the flesh of the vulnerable, was abberant behaviour.

Double standards from supermarkets to a convenient 'shrug emoji'
One reason these double standards are accepted is because the political class refuses to acknowledge them and there is little pushback.

Raise the rate (pensions, dole etc) to get ppl out of poverty & raise wages - they've been stagnant for too long. When ppl have enough money to live off, they'll spend & GST revenue will go up. Who buys discretionary products or services when they haven't a cent to spare? Even better, introduce UBI.

again, a key reason why we can't have serious conversations about poverty, & food insecurity, is because of the charity sector. Always absolving government for creating poverty, and pumping out feel-good missives about how YOU can help put temporary bandaids on systemic wounds
Ozharvest post saying we need MOAR food banks to solve poverty, instead of idk, a government policy that doesn't starve people
