This is your brain on neoliberalism: the problem isn't that your wages are falling and big corporations are gouging you for every cent, the problem is that you're just not comparing prices enough!

Labor is letting Big Tech run rampant while it mumbles about productivity and the PM gives speeches in New York. And they still haven't put in a single law to protect us. Embarrassing.

We don’t have time for this. About 250 Australians die every year from heatwaves. That number is projected to sky-rocket to 6000 by 2100. The major parties are choosing their fossil fuel donors over people’s lives. A green transition means a liveable future for all of us.

Deidre's husband waited months for a special chair he desperately needed. It arrived two weeks after he died. Labor's aged care reforms are a disaster: blowing out waitlists, denying care and forcing people off supports. Growing old should be a joy, not a struggle for survival.

Labor backbenchers have been out in force the past few days spruiking "increases" in Centrelink payments. To be very, very clear: this is absolute bullshit. This is an automatic CPI adjustment, not an increase. Labor is still keeping people on income support in poverty.

In 2022 Labor promised to scrap compulsory income control. They lied. Now they've extended it INDEFINITELY on the quiet. The Greens tried to undo this in the Senate last week but Labor and the LNP blocked us. I'm chairing a hearing tomorrow where I'll be demanding some answers.

For almost a year now we’ve listened to the Aged Care minister defend the broken home support assessment system. Now we learn he wasn't briefed on the tool depriving clinicians of oversight until three days before the changes took effect.

Queensland’s LNP government has signed away our power and data to a trillion-dollar company. The site in Western Downs will use the same amount of energy as 1.5 million households. That’s 44x the population there! The community didn't ask for this. Moratorium now.

Every time Labor, the LNP and One Nation punch down on immigrants, they're providing cover for supermarkets gouging us at the checkout, banks raising our mortgages and the billionaires hoarding our wealth. The same corporations and billionaires that fund their political operations!

It's all well and good to have a select committee into how the government is going to use AI. But it's kind of beside the point when we don't even have guardrails for the use of AI, and we've got people warning about its catastrophic risks. What is Labor playing at?

Penny Allman-Payne @pennyallmanpayne.com · 10/09/2026
This is disturbing. Basketball Australia is rolling out IDF-linked AI software to record children. Australia doesn't have the regulatory guardrails in place to safeguard the use of AI surveillance tools like this - how can parents and carers be sure their kids will be safe?

There are massive culture problems at some of our most elite private schools. So many reports of misogyny, harassment & abuse - yet despite the millions they get in public funding, school leadership is rarely held accountable. We can't keep letting them play by their own rules.

In Australia, millionaire mortgage brokers can simply buy time to lobby the Prime Minister. They just have to donate money to charities that only need to exist because industries like theirs make massive profits at the expense of public services and supports. Great system!

UK sanctions on illegal West Bank settlements are insufficient, but they're a start. The pressure is working. This move is the direct result of the political pain the free Palestine movement is causing UK Labour. Solidarity with those who continue risking freedom for justice.

We're only eight days into spring and Queensland is in flames. This is runaway global heating. This is what happens when weak politicians addicted to corporate cash let coal and gas companies write government policy. Labor must act. No more coal. No more gas. Transition now.

Spare me this performative bullshit, Senator. The thousands lost in Nepal and Tibet died because political parties like yours have been bought by fossil fuel dollars. It’s that simple. You say you have “sympathy”? Not enough sympathy to stop cooking the planet apparently.

Labor has approved yet another coal project, extending it to 2055. Fossil fuels are incompatible with a liveable future. Far North Qld will be most at risk of sea level rises and heat-related deaths. We need a government that works for everyday people, not corporations.

If you’ve ever interacted with Services Australia or employment services, you’ve probably been pushed to do everything online. Then, when the online system fails, you can’t speak to a real person. You’re told to go back online with no support. 1/5

Labor and the LNP have sold Queensland to dirty fossil fuels and big tech corporations. The Greens will keep pushing for strong guardrails to stop these massive companies from scraping our data, making the climate emergency worse, and pushing up our electricity bills.

Another reminder that every time we’re doing it tough, these massive corporations are gleefully raking in massive increases to their profits. Big oil and gas companies don’t want to switch to cheap & green renewables, because then how will they extort us?

Today, Gold Coast Council will vote on the privatisation of the operation of council pools. Public assets should be under public control and run for the public good, not private profit. Council must reject the model of privatisation that has done nothing but fail Queenslanders.

Big tech needs stronger regulation, not less. Queensland farmers should not have to compete for water with big tech companies, especially when our state frequently battles severe droughts.

Hands off UQ Union! Student money should be student directed. But UQ’s Transition Plan rips control away from students and their union. Students will be protesting this injustice on August 26th on campus. The Greens are in solidarity with their fight.

🚨 BREAKING: Massive win for older people! Labor has backflipped on its plan to scrap the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), following huge community pressure and a damning Greens-led inquiry. Labor’s disastrous aged care reforms are unravelling before our eyes.

The two-party system is broken. By choosing to side with the predatory gambling industry, Labor and the Coalition last night failed their primary responsibility: to protect Australians from harm. They're not fit to govern. It's time for a change.

The writing is on the wall for Labor’s aged care assessment tool. Older people, carers and experts have been screaming for months that it's systematically under-assessing need and priority. Now the Senate has been crystal clear: it’s time for Labor to go back to the drawing board.

Labor claims its automated aged care assessments tool is designed to better target funding. I've always said that was bullshit, and now a Four Corners investigation proves it. Removing human beings from care decisions is just cost-cutting – and older people are paying the price.

Coercion and punishment should never be part of a social security system. The Government should not resume these unfair penalties, and must instead move towards a safety net that's compulsion-free, simple, and there for all of us.

This is a happy day for David McBride and his family. But he should have never seen the inside of a prison cell. In Australia you're more likely to get jailed for blowing the whistle on war crimes than you are for committing them. This has to change.

If you're looking for evidence of a sick school system, here it is 👇 We have one of the most segregated school systems in the OECD. Vast wealth from wealthy families and governments concentrates in private schools while 6,600 public schools don't even get their minimum funding.

Whether it’s gambling companies who want to keep advertising to our kids, or coal and gas polluters clinging to their fuel subsidies, big corporations know they can lobby governments to let them keep making money - whatever the cost. Is it any wonder people hate politicians?

Most debts can't be pursued after 6 years. But Centrelink will hound welfare recipients for decades for debts that are often totally invented. The Robodebt Royal Commission recommended reinstating the 6-year limit on welfare debt recovery - Labor should get on with it.

In related news, ex WA Labor premier Mark McGowan met with ALP national secretary Paul Erickson in Canberra this week. McGowan "consults" for APM, a private equity-owned JSP which makes about $600 million a year from Labor's privatised employment system. It's ALP mates all the way down.

Something that’s been lost in the NAPLAN reporting today: the equity gap in our school system is growing. First Nations kids, kids living in poverty, and those in regional, rural and remote communities are falling further behind. Most of them attend an underfunded public school.

Sport and private equity do not mix. FIFA’s secret deal to sell out the World Cup to billionaire investors further jeopardises the integrity of the sport. Football belongs to the fans and the players, and shouldn’t be up for sale.

Nearly 4 million people are living in poverty - including one in six kids. So of course the PM uses his opening address to the ALP conference to announce the *checks notes* expansion of a scheme that pays students a poverty payment. This isn't reform. This is politics as usual.

The allegations against Marist College Ashgrove are awful. Female teachers have reported being sexually harassed and intimidated by students, incidents the school has shrugged off. Misogyny has no place in schools – especially one that’s banked $162m in govt funding over the decade.
