I don't think a single Nintendo brand 'remake' has been an improvement over the original, and I super mean that. every single attempt has been a step sideways, needlessly removing the intended friction of the game, and changing the intended art style so much that it is basically unrecognizable.

last night I played the last session of Stonetop. My character became immortal and guards the forest, waiting for those who wish to learn the songs that help the trees grow. an ironic ending for my character that had spent a large portion of the game, throwing themselves into danger.

BTW, I think Hero's Adventure is the best starting point: store.steampowered.com/app/1948980/... Tale of Wuxia is also excellent, and it's a remake of a 2001 game called 武林群俠傳. Wandering Sword is great, but it's very linear. If you're ok with fan-translations, try Legend of Mortal & Ho Tu Lo Shu.

I really feel like a dungeon keeper game in the theme of backrooms could be really cool, but the catch is that rooms and portions of your 'dungeon' would deprecate over time, which is what you *want* because that's what facilitates certain sporadic architecture to bloom.

NEO Scavenger, the previous title, was the sort of game where every part of it was intricate, but once you learned enough about it you could absolutely make it dance. Ostranauts has been in development for at least as long, and if you're an imm sim person you should really check it out.
