Veteran creators like Picacio may feel more comfortable negotiating than new or first-time authors and artists—and MRM might even be open to negotiation—but no one should have to negotiate every single contract to get even basic stuff like this added back to the boilerplate.

I’m guest editing the next issue of Agita; send me your weirdest <1000 word stories about weird art. Authors from marginalized backgrounds encouraged and prioritized. No AI bullshit. The weirder the better. agitamag.com/submissions/
Issue 3: Ekphrasis
Between October 17 and November 17, guest editor Zachary Gillan will accept submissions of weird flash fiction that features ekphrasis.
Ekphrasis is the verbal representation of a work of visual art.
Weird fiction is a verbal representation of the world, in order to unsettle it.
We want stories that live at the intersection of the two. Pieces that emphasize the eerie power of weird art, whether fully ekphrastic or embedded within a traditional narrative. How does the weird seep in as reality is doubly estranged from these two layers of representation? Cursed paintings, uncanny statues, haunted mezzotints-send us your stories of weird art.

i have a story coming out next year-ish in @kaleidotrope.bsky.social! it's an epistolary, slipstream, historical novelette about a worn-down lawman trying to figure out how a murdered schoolteacher came back from the dead. the schoolteacher has her own goals.
A starry purple background with two hummingbird stickers and white text that reads: "Upcoming Story: "A Note After the Fact" in Kaleidotrope.

many thanks to @pronouncedlahra.bsky.social for her blurb, which made me feel so seen 💖 if you want to be disoriented and frightened, but ultimately heartened, head to psychopomp.com/house-body-b...
When Birdie grudgingly returns to help her parents in the house she grew up in—a dollhouse museum where even her own room was an exhibit—it’s not a homecoming. It’s a trap. As Birdie struggles to escape that toxic place and its suffocating memories, this slim volume asks big questions: How do you build a home within a house, a family, your own body? Disorienting and frightening, but ultimately heartening, House, Body, Bird is a book like nothing I’ve ever read before. Highly recommended.
