I miss the sound of her voice, like the wind had turned to melodious silver. The songs she sang, that crept into my heart and never left. Her kindness to the downtrodden, her wrath to the deserving. Her eyes, like night, and how she looked at me, that one precious night. I miss her.

That was a great year. The Fae Queen made all the flowers bloom the whole year round! Great for my beekeeping business. That year's honey jars sell for a hundred gold a piece! 'Course when she left both the flowers and half my swarm died...I sent a letter of complaint but never heard back.

The year I lost. Or gained. Time moves differently around the Fae. The realm saw Her for a year, but those attending her spent a day in Her presence. I lost a year of watching my child grow. Of the days to spend with family and friends. Of chances to share Life, and Beauty, and Love with them.

They say that snowflakes drifted in her wake as she traveled. But the flakes could be found in areas she where she had not trod. Personally, I think a few of her attendants were the ones causing that particular affect. Then the slugs spread things around, as is their habit.

Once, the trees purpled in fall and their leaves became moths that hibernated in roof thatch for winter. Rain fell sweet as sugar, though of course there are some who drank too deep and slumber still. What do you miss from the year the Fae Queen wandered our realm? #TinyTalesTuesday #WritingPrompt

Outlaw Jim? The guy who defeated a dragon blindfolded AND with one hand tied behind his back? I heard by night he goes by James and every Saturday he stops by the hospital to read to sick orphans. Don't tell anyone I told you that.

I heard that Outlaw Jim was first called that name by Coyote, after the man managed to steal some food from Coyote's den. Something to do with putting a reverse gravity manipulator on a bird. Can you believe that?

You know what I heard, I heard Outlaw Jim got into a bean-eating contest with the Divvle himself, and just as it looked like it was a sure thing and Jim'd be drugged down to Hell, Jim managed one more can -- farted himself clean to the moon -- and come back with a rock to smack the Divvle out cold

Outlaw Jim once robbed a hoard with nothing but a song. My aunt's best friend's partner was there, they say that when Outlaw Jim played his first note, the whole hoard animated and just danced out behind him, and the princess followed, laughing.

Outlaw Jim? Outlaw Jim has a mouth so foul he sends sailors crying to momma. Outlaw Jim got swallowed by a dragon and in two days the dragon was begging him to leave. Outlaw Jim does more with eight fingers than a pianist does with ten. Why, what have YOU heard? #TinyTalesTuesday #WritingPrompt

One Wednesday morning, classically, on a banana peel. You'd think that joke would wear thin, much like the name-calling but it remains. So will I, long after those in the Above are dust and myth themselves. That's the beauty of here - we craft our own, remain immortal. #tinytalestuesday

The Rift came *from* me, unfurling from the frayed edge of each un-seamed and unseemly hole in the threadbare and familiar comfort of my clothes. When you tried to smudge away the joy of hard work staining my face, with your finger, you split wide the world the Rift unfurled, a sanctuary even then.

I was here first. Before the first hand stretched over the gap and just...let go. And it's not pure stubbornness that kept me here, combing through detritus and debris they heaped down on us. There's still beauty here. From up there, they can't even see the things we're building together.

I was chasing the ghost de mi prima. Ever since she died in the accident she's been whispering in my dreams. The bosses say she was reckless. Abuela warned me from following her, even as she curses them. But I slipped down into the Rift, and I saw what killed mi prima. I know what the High Ups fear.

You know, from that ancient copy of the Terran book I found -- something Nonnia? -- I thought I might just slip in, casually, without meaning to. But it never happened, and I finally paid a fixer to find me a riftslip I could fit into. :/

I was 14. There was a book series. I had 1-8, & 10. 8 ended on a cliff-hanger. I couldn't read 10 without 9, first. Rumors lead me down into the Rift. Instinct lead to an attic there. Warm, dim, dusty. Stuffed to the rafters with old books. Including 9. I'm still there, reading all the other books.

I grew up in a family of eleven people, and I’ve never learned not to cook for a crowd. So that’s what I do. I bake breads, cookies, and cakes; I stew and I braise; I boil pasta; and I bring it in vast quantities to the center of town, confident that it will all get eaten, no matter what it is.

Basic needs are taken care of, yet in that absence, advanced needs become more prevalent. Existential fears must be given form, and quelled; broken hearts patched back together; hopes and fears bottled in their proper place. The work of the emotional needleworker is never done.

My grandma taught me to make little clay butter-lamps. But it was my sister—who once went missing for a night & mysteriously returned with 10 extra lbs of muscle & tales of fairyland—who showed me that engraving certain marks on them made them drive away pests. Dunno how they work, but have one!

There isn't much demand for curse tablets anymore, and honestly, I'm thankful for it. While I enjoyed the challenge, it was heartbreaking how many I used to sell. These days, I trade mostly in blessings. People bring me their hopes and I weave them with ribbons and string, beads and carved bones.

Every year I craft paper from plants in my garden. I trim the paper to 140cm. Then I fold the paper into a hexagonal grid of 4cm pleats. Finally, I collapse and twist the paper into an origami tessellation I call Celtic Variations. Fixed between 2 planes of glass, it makes a lovely window shade.

Handknits fingerless gloves that not only keep your fingers warm, they boost your sense of comfort and wellbeing. (The first function operates regardless of weather conditions; the latter does start to lose efficacy after the first hour of wet, cold hiking. They're magical, not miraculous.)

The runes say tomorrow, Odin's Day, will start a storm day. Pounding rain, growling clouds, lashing winds. Gray, perhaps? But... Once the sun stands high, comes the clearing, and the rainbow. A Celebration of surviving. Tomorrow will be an any color day, and I shall wear them all.

The forecast for tomorrow is rainbows. White straw hat with red banding, orange neckerchief, yellow shirt with a green collar, blue jeans, purple socks, brown shoes, black bag. It may look like anything goes on rainbow days but giving each color space to shine is harder than my usual monochrome look

You can always tell a day's color by the aura of the sunrise. Yesterday was blue. Today, when I watched the sun rise, the aura was green. I may be a mere hedge witch, and reading day auras is more art than science...but I'd say, for tomorrow, you should definitely stock up on goods that are purple.

Somehow, you’ve ended up with a few spots of salt lichen, despite being a day’s travel from the coast. Fortunately, you spotted its glow and caught it early, and you set aside as much as you can in corked jars. You’ll make the trip in a few days, and set it free above the high-tide line.

The Mourning Lady no longer only grows by forgotten graves, but has spread to shady corners of well-tended gardens. Known by its dusky drooping head and tattered shadow, if your plants are suddenly looking mournful and the fog seems heavy over normally sunny spots, you may have an unwelcome presence

Thornstrife is a real problem. It was imported from the continent 300 yrs ago for decoration, but we don't have the megafauna to keep it under control here. It can tangle up anything smaller than a cat and feed it into its rhizome network to self-fertilize. Awful stuff. Admittedly pretty, though.

The park has been infested with knifegrass that sprang up seemingly overnight in every corner. I pull on my mithril gauntlets, roll down my heavy sleeves, and reach for the base of each plant, turning my face away from the sharp leaves and working by feel. Knifegrass is stubborn, but so am I.

Don't mistake the Ebony Moon Apple for the Scarlet Moon Apple. Both fruit start red but only one matures to a deep purplish-black color when ripe. One is delicious while the other quite deadly. The old saying goes: If crimson about to fall, don't touch at all. Night fruit's alright fruit.

*deep sigh* TECHNICALLY it's indigenous to the area; non-technically, it's *also* invasive. The locals have been giving it nicknames for hundreds of years: Tripsy Peg, Staggering Fivepetal, Lurchvine, Mottled Wallow, Waverweed, Blounders. Anyway: it grabs people, and I need it out of my garden.

I swear, some people will do anything to avoid check in at the SkyBridge access port. It's free! We just want to know how many bodies are up there. At least this time it's just a smashed electrical component. Probably used to jam the turbine signal long enough to get through safely. No blood smears.

The dragonlet keeps coming back, chirping sadly when it can’t find its hoard of pennies and marbles. So today I lure it to me with an opalite earring and settle it inside my coat. I feed it Cheerios on the way home and make it a nest in my bric-a-brac display. A gigantic hoard for a tiny dragonlet.

It's a long, long while before the World-Under-The-World comes into view. A honeycomb of hanging primeval lava and long rope bridges, with flags fluttering in magma-warmed winds. Those who live Below, speak of what was ripped away from Above. They watch further below yet, for the Castaway World.

I take a deep, calming breath and then extend the wood-and-canvas wings I spent so long constructing. The joints and joins creak and pop as they lock into place, the cords that serve as sinews stretching and tightening. It is time to see what no one has seen: what lies beyond this world of ours.
