Masks have been off for a long time, really, but now they’re off, soaked in kerosene and being used to set a cross on fire. Just gutter racist trash. And he and everybody there should be remembered as such.

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

At this stage it doesn't matter to me if this guy is cosplaying. I want a person who talks like this and then promises to back it up to be the next president. If there's somebody who winds up being more convincing than him in the next year or so, I'll vote for that person instead.

This is Nazi rhetoric, full stop. It's not only a call to instigate a race war in the United States, but it's reminiscent of historic European justifications used to incite pogroms against Jews. People who say things like this are incredibly dangerous, as there is nothing they won't eventually do.

It’s excellent getting to say to a group of students, We’re gonna read X & we’re gonna spend 75 minutes talking about it, & ideally the way you think about the world & yourself is gonna be a bit more nuanced, complex, & satisfying, & that’s today’s “product.” Or, as @cnygren.bsky.social & I said:
Suggestions
While in recent years universities have promoted student “productivity” (projects, online portfolios of their work, social media posts about their research papers, the list goes on), little of this push to deliver outputs and create content serves the actual purpose of education, which is to foster the capacity to think well, read well, listen well, and look well. Higher education strengthens the process; if we are going toteach sophisticated materials and challenging content, students need to learn how to think, read, listen, and look their way through it. The emphasis on “content creation” is detrimental to the educational mission.

“The effect of ChatGPT on educators’ lives is catastrophic. Whether you intended to do it or not, you’ve made every teacher’s life infinitely more difficult than it was two years ago. So, just let that settle in… If students are using it to compose, which is the biggest tragedy of all, they’ll never learn to write. And their voice is stolen from them. They’ll never have the ability to say their truth and tell their own story. And that’s silencing an entire generation or two.”

ok the Reacher guy keeps it real as hell
The Hollywood Reporter headline: The High Highs and Low Lows of Alan Ritchson.

There's a photo of Ritchson on a motorcycle“I’m a Christian quite simply because of what Jesus calls us to do. Love other people until death. It doesn’t mean we’re all to be hung on a cross, but how can I suffer for you? That is a beautiful thing.”“Cops get away with murder all the time, and the fact that we can’t really hold them accountable for their improprieties is disturbing to me. We should completely reform the way that we do it. I mean, you shouldn’t have to spend more time getting an education as a hairstylist than as a cop who’s armed with a deadly weapon. We should make it very hard for people to make mistakes or abuse power in our institutions.”That simple message, he says, has become twisted in today’s fraught political landscape. “Christians today have become the most vitriolic tribe. It is so antithetical to what Jesus was calling us to be and to do,” he explains. It also upsets him that some Christians have so closely aligned with former President Donald Trump. “Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to be treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”

I think assigning students challenging stuff--at any level--is a way of expressing respect for them and for their potential, and I don't think such expression of respect depends on their recognizing it as such in the moment. Also we are custodians of what we cherish.

Be sure to use Al when making your next, I don't know, meal plan, for example. Definitely do not call your friend who loves to cook and ask her for her favorite recipes or tips or ways to save time making meals, because you will end
up talking for longer than you had hoped, hearing, perhaps, about her father's cancer diagnosis or how lonely she's been or even what she's planted in her spring garden and then lost with the early frost.

Now, it comes down to how the Knicks respond in Game 4. KAT can change the narrative about being soft by playing aggressive. And at the same time, I fully understand his hesitancy since those two calls in Game 2. I hope I'm wrong about that being the pivotal moment in this series. #letsgoknicks 8/8

Because the officials have been inconsistent, especially in calling the KAT/Wemby matchup. This has become especially clear as the series has progressed. After Game 3, it is clear the officials aren't going to assess Wemby another flagrant and risk having to suspend him for a Finals game. 6/?

Obviously, the officials play a huge role in this. KAT has not ever gotten a very favorable whistle. He will need to play with aggression and force the officials to make calls. Even if he fouls out, he's been aggressive. Put the spotlight back on the refs and the inconsistency in their calls. 5/?

Now, KAT can choose how he responds. He has to be more aggressive in Game 4, and get his mentality reset. He needs to be able to attack when they guard with someone other than Wemby; Fox blocked him twice in Game 3. For me, KAT is our MVP in this series and I want to see him live up to that. 4/?

Since that point, that match-up shifted: Before those two calls: KAT: Game 1: 18pts, 12 reb. Game 2: 21 pts, 9 reb; Wemby: Game 1: 26pts, 12 reb; Game 2: 13 pts, 7 reb. After those two calls: KAT: Game 2: 0 pts; 6 reb; Game 3: 11pts, 8 reb. Wemby: Game 2: 16 pts, 2 reb; Game 3: 32 pts, 8 reb. 3/?

Those two calls took away his confidence and sent a message about how he was going to be officiated - he wasn't going to be getting a favorable whistle from the officials. And he hasn't played with the same aggression since that point. Those two calls have shifted his mentality 2/?

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried the Knicks-Spurs series has already turned in the Spurs favor. I believe the pivotal moment was with 6:00 left in game two, when KAT, who had been dominating Wemby through 6 quarters, picked up two foul calls in 20 seconds - both questionable calls. 1/?

There is a difference between inheritance and action. I cannot help who my ancestors are, but I can make my own choices. That so many Americans chose to place in power a man who holds people in contempt on the basis of race, religion, and national origin; that so much of the mainstream media conveys this bigotry through tired, obfuscating euphemisms; that there is so low a political price for the president’s racism that he and those around him see little risk in its expression—well, that does say something about America, and Americans. Immigration isn’t breaking our society. That’s a job Americans can do on their own.
