As an indie author with over a decade of experience writing romance novels, with over 200 books written. I'm also a single mother with a BA in creative writing and no other marketable skills. I started using AI in 2023 because the algorithm and the fact that most romance is human slop already. With thoughtful use, my AI generated books are just as good if not better than my previous work. Which necessitated that I rapid release written to market romance. If I could spend my time writing literary feminist horror, I'd do that in a heartbeat. But that would mean my children starve. So, I write what people actually buy. I can tell you that the MAJORITY of KU romance novels are now written with AI. I know AI writing well enough to spot it within a few paragraphs. If you don't have to live off your writing or you have the ability to meticulously write your smut by hand, good for you. But elevating rapid release genre fiction to this moral line in the sand is a choice. LOL. I've been in the indie community long enough to know that this community never gave a shit about craft or art or authenticity. It's pretty fucking hilarious that it cares about it now. After I've suffered probably 3-4 episodes of extreme burn out. I honestly do not care what purists think of my work flow. You're not paying my bills. My AI books sell and get good reviews. Now, I would never claim to write 200 in a year because that is slop. And most AI influencers are LYING. I can do maybe write 15-20 with 10 years of experience, 200 books written, and a BFA in creative writing. But I guarantee most indie romance novels are now majority AI.
