Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP.
He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate.

Whacka symbolizes karma for killing him in past games

Not a share thing, but related—something I appreciate from Klearsky and Subway Tooter is that the client's raw loaded record/graph data is made accessible via a menu. Consistently linking to PDSls alleviates this desire, but being able to quickly peek at backing data within the client is still nice.

I would personally appreciate buttons to easily copy the at:// URI (though you can trim the start of the PDSls URL for that) and full ISO-8601 UTC timestamp. (On mobile, I've been opening records in PDSls for that.)

microsoft developers using SteamOS running Windows-native games through compatibility layers AS A BENCHMARK for their new Windows K2 optimizations is one of the funniest fucking things to happen thus far in this current iteration of the OS war

For gaming, Microsoft views steamOS as the benchmark, and is working to optimize the platform so that steamOS and Windows gaming performance are comparable. Within the next year or two, it believes that Windows will be able to truly compete head-to-head with steamOS in gaming performance on identical hardware due to foundational changes that are being made to the platform in the coming months.
