Currently reading (book #4): ARC of Smash or Pass by Birdie Shae! This is one of my most anticipated reads of 2026 as I've seen the author talk about this book for nearly a year on tiktok/ig! It's a YA sapphic volleyball romance with autism rep! This releases on May 12th! Also the cover is GORGEOUS!
The cover of Smash or Pass by Birdie Shae, featuring two teenage girls kissing while holding a volleyball. The one on the left has curly brown hair, a pink top, and jeans, the one on the right has long blonde hair in a ponytail, a white jersey, and orange athletic pants. Secondary text reads: "She's done playing by the rules." and a blurb "Deeply Heartfelt." -Rachel Lynn Soloman, New York Times best selling author of Today Tonight Tomorrow

Cayleen is an autistic writing instructor who hates ABA but loves ABBA. She doesn’t believe autism is a superpower. But a lightning strike changes her life, giving her a superpower—with boogie. “Putting a Bee in her Bonnet” is in Speculative Shorts: Stories that fell out of my brain! #BookSky 1/2
Book cover description: A blue sky with a few light puffy clouds is the background for a clothesline with three pairs of shorts on it. The left pair of shorts has dragon scales pattern, the middle one has a deck of cards pattern, and the one on the right has a galaxy pattern.

Quote at the top says, "Cait Gordon writes with infectious joy and energy, and with a sense of humour that is never far from the surface—even in the darkest moments." Kate Heartfield, Prix Aurora Award-winning author of The Embroidered Book

Miona stands on the right, smiling and with boxing gloved fists raised, ready to fight.

They both stand on a grassy slope, a patchwork of Farm Zone paddocks, fields and tree lined streams behind them, to a cloud covered horizon through which the yellow glow of the sun shines.

Text below cover: Make or break. Friends or fail. Monster containment.

Right: Ruarnon Trilogy Graphic with map background and a box of key points for each book.

Book 1, Manipulator's War: red glyph archway frames a smoky night sky, with fire arrows raining down on battlements on which a few torches burn. Ruarnon leans on a spear (left foreground), wearing fitted bronze armour and holding a bronze helmet.

Book 1 Text: Mystery, aro-arces, autism & ADHD, friendship.

Book 2, Secrets of the Sorcery War: blue glyph arch frames two extremely tall cliffs, through which a sailing ship sails across bright blue waters into sunlight.

Book 2 Text: monsters, forgotten weapons, adventure.

Book 3, War in Sorcery's Shadow: purple glyph arch frames a black cloudy sky, down from which a bolt of lightening strikes a shield around brown, crystaline towers of a castle. Castle sits atop barren plains of dead trees, a skull lying in foreground.

Ok, The Space Ace of Mangleby Flat is now available at Kobo, Barnes and Noble, Apple, etc. etc. I also put a new cover on it. Does it now look less like a space opera? We'll see! (Space Ace is asexual terminology, a bit like how Woodworking is trans terminology, nothing to do with woodwork.) 🌈📚
Cover image for The Space Ace of Mangleby Flat. A novel. Larre Bildeston. Tagline reads: Not straight. Not Gay. Not bi plus. Some super queer Other Thing.

Cover art is an unsettling, smoky recolouring of an Australian road with an old house at the end of it. Three images of the same guy on the road: First as a boy, then as a teen, then as a man in a suit. There's also a curled up wombat if you look hard enough.

"We need diverse and authentic depictions of autism; more intersectional representation, stories outside of the autistic savant, of autistic joy, adventure and, yes, also sometimes tragedy." Autism is not a genre by Chloe Johnson @thebookseller.com www.thebookseller.com/comment/copy...
Screenshot from linked article.

"Autistic individuals are all different. With autism affecting the way we view the world and the way we live our life so thoroughly, why shouldn’t we see that reflected in art? We need diverse and authentic depictions of autism; more intersectional representation, stories outside of the autistic savant, of autistic joy, adventure and, yes, also sometimes tragedy.

Reading, after all, can often be an act of resistance, and with a common refrain from autistic people being an indescribable feeling of otherness, stories can be a way to feel less alone. For those outside of the autistic community, they can be a way to go from beyond awareness to understanding… and, often, just a damn good book you might enjoy. Autism, after all, is not a genre."

To honor Alice—and all our disability ancestors—is to keep building that connective tissue she described. To love fiercely, politically, on purpose. To ensure the filaments they left behind continue to glow in us, and through us, long after the world has forgotten their names. We won’t.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

Beneath it is a section introducing the chapter:

Chapter: Embracing Monotropism and Flow
By Fergus Murray and Helen Edgar

This chapter discusses the benefits of embracing the theory of monotropism (Murray et al., 2005) and the associated phenomenon of flow for Autistic and ADHD young people in educational settings. It highlights why reframing the narrative around autism is crucial. A deeper understanding of monotropism can support the wellbeing of young people and improve educational outcomes by creating radically inclusive learning environments and fostering collaborative approaches.
