If you are commuting across a bridge to Manhattan, they give you a $7 discount (e.g., cap rides of 45 min at $5 and change), then maybe. But really, we need to have workable BIKE parking. I mean for this price, I can buy a monthly parking spot for a car and use it for my bike.

The only real reason my family ever uses citibike is because there isn’t reliable bike storage or enforcement against theft. It’s become a racket though. Geez

I think we are dropping our @citibikenyc.bsky.social membership this year. It’s not worth it. Yesterday $24 for upper east side to Inwood is an indictment. It’s cheaper to take a cab.

None of the AI/LLM's that I tried managed to correctly answer that tides are unusually high b/c of the approaching nor'easter. It wasn't a trick question. The answer (4th pic above) is here: tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/inundationdb... All the AI's that I asked assured me everything was normal.

Coastlines in the #NYC metro region are flooding today and over the weekend due to Nor'Easter Nolo. Our infrastructure -- even BRAND NEW NYC -- is not prepared for sea level rise. We aren't even well prepared for flooding from this Nor'Easter.
NYC Parks and Columbia University rebuilt this boat launch into the Harlem River about a year ago. It looks like it is maxed out today, about an hour off of the local high tide.this should be a ramp down to the water but it is flat and at risk of bowing upward.NYC Parks rebuilt this boat launch after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. It looks like it is maxed out right now and may break with the September 2026 Extratropical Cyclone / Nor'easter Nolo. The Henry Hudson Bridge and Harlem River are in the background. The tidal marsh of Inwood Hill Park has jumped its banks. A 20' wide park path is inundated. Several parks benches are in the water. NOAA Tides and Currents Timeseries for Sep 24-26, 2026 for The Battery, NYC. It shows minor to moderate flooding at high tide.

In the USA, the NSF had a program called Climate and Natural History about how climate influences humans and human climate in early societies. It’s existed for a LONG time. And a lot of land use arguments. But there are perils like the likely untrue early Anthropocene theory of ruddiman.

It has not been my experience that the presentations to community boards hold up projects. It has been the procurement process and protracted timeline between plan and actually implementation. It’s disingenuous to imply that community board presentations delay projects by a third imho

This awful story of two high school girls killed by a truck driver who failed to yield and turned into them is awful. Worse is reporting emphasizing they were riding two on an electric citibike- as if a single kid on a traditional bike would’ve had any different outcome. This story gets it right.

Cities should be paying people to bike. Cities should be buying people e-bikes. Cities should be rewarding people for convincing neighbors to ride bikes. Every trip by bike is a net financial gain socially. And it compounds, the more people who do it.
