this is the ultimate end point of capitalism, ai will completely atomize everyone and there will be zero shared experiences. there will be no culture, only pure consumption. this must be resisted

people working in a field doesn't just magically confer an ability to divine information. an AI worker saying they're worried still needs evidence beyond, "if this happens and this happens, then this bad thing will happen, and I just think it's pretty likely that it will"

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Business idea: algorithmic-style Dynamic Pricing at restaurants. You can get French onion soup for $1.75 when it's really hot out, but a tomato salad costs $57 in August. Everyone hates it; Softbank has already contributed $150m in funding just off the concept.

Today Microsoft moved all its GitHub copilot subscribers to token-based billing. If you want to see what happens when people have to pay the actual costs of AI, the day is finally here. It's obvious that every customer sees the deep, meaningful value and isn't angry at all.

This is hilarious. For context I used the Copilot Orchestrator that has Condutor, Planning, Implementator and Code review agents. But with the new "usage based pricing", seems like this is not an ideal setup anymore?
Anyone has the same experience here? I am on Copilot Prot. This is so expensive.r/GithubCopilot • 6h ago

First day of the new pricing model, I tried one prompt to just refine one of my existing change proposal, basically a conductor with few sub agents to update the existing change spec, architecture, test plan, prototype, tech spec and implementation plan.
About 20-30 mins task, ends up burning 16% of my monthly credits in one shot.
Bye.

Importantly, for the executives who cook their brains with genAI, there are zero repercussions to it. The "work" it does for them is meaningless, the "productivity" they perceive is completely meaningless, absolutely none of it fucking matters. The students' experience with it is very different.

Another speaker off panel says, “alright… let’s get these bandages off.” Panel 2: the person is gleefully looking at themself in a handheld mirror, their friends are overjoyed. Their new nose is a gigantic, elongated and pointed sword shape. Panel 3: they are jumping out of the ocean with a smile on their face, in unison with two swordfish who are also breaching the water.

Companies Chose to Rethink A Quaint Concept: Profits
By Bernard Wysocki Jr.Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal

Profits matter. Or do they?
James Borkowski always thought so, until he started listening to venture capitalists.
"The attitude is almost antiprofit," marvels Mr.
Borkowski, executive vice president of Industrial Microwave Systems Inc. He says that his two-year-old company originally planned to become profitable in the year 2000. "But our financial advisers told us not to be profitable too quickly," he says. So the company is projecting losses until 2001.

Michael Rapaport tweets: "How’s a so-called “working class” mayoral candidate like Zohran Mamdani eating at OMEN SUSHI tonight — one of the priciest joints in NYC? 🍣💰
This clown lives in a rent-stabilized apartment in Queens but dines like a diplomat on a Qatar-funded per diem.
Who’s paying for that toro, “Zoron the Moron”?"

There are two photos of Zohran Mamdani and his wife eating at a restaurant. Michael Rapaport eating outside of a restaurant. There are some white canopy umbrellas around him and a tree in the background. Also the ocean and some fence. Two photos. The first shows the outside of Nobu in Malibu. The second shows the area where Michael sat. There is the same tree, ocean, white canopy umbrellas, and fence. The menu for Nobu in Malibu shows prices around $60. The menu for Omen Sushi in NYC shows prices around $35.
