Applying this logic to RPG books and zines

The legendary Italian writer Umberto Eco had over 50,000 books in his private library.

When asked why so many, he had this to say:

It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.

It just requires a little reframing to think about books differently. What if we thought about them as medicine? Then, suddenly:

we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the ‘medicine closet’ and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That’s why you should always have a nutrition choice!

It literally means 'You too, child', but what Caesar may have intended by the words isnt clear. Tempest cites 'an important article' by James Russell (1980) 'that has often been overlooked'. Russel points out that the words kai su often appear on curse tablets, and suggest that Caesar's putative last words were not 'the emotional parting declaration of a betrayed man to one he had treated like a son' but more along the lines of 'See you in hell, punk'.

Working on a new #TTRPG and decided to use book quotes/song names as placeholders for skills until I could come up with actual names, but honestly I might keep some of these. Because who doesn’t want a skill that is just « Exit, pursued by bear » or « Welcome to the Black Parade »

Same with sticky notes! The adhesive can turn into an absolute nightmare, especially on photographs. Staples are not your friend, but plastic paperclips are. If you need to divide stuff within a folder, or keep records together, fold a blank piece of paper in half around each record/document.

Don't put rubber bands or metal paperclips on things you want to save forever. They will get gross and damage your stuff if you leave them on. (Sincerely, an archivist who regularly has to pull rusty paperclips and crusty rubber bands off things like irreplaceable photographs and original records.)
