Talking to my favourite local barista this morning, who's told me in the past that he voted National last election and really regrets it. Today he told me he'd done the policy quiz and it'd told him to vote Green! Had a looong chat about taxing the rich and our other policies, as well as the poll!

I also sat in on a lecture this year with the head of research within the Retirement Commission who said we’d be ok so long as we had immigration that supported our level of need. And seeing how Japan have completely fucked that up because of racist bullshit, I’d listen to the NZ guy #nzpol

Hey, peasant scum drivers. Remember, from 1 October if the bus is indicating to pull out and you're doing less than 60kph YOU HAVE TO GIVE WAY. Also, if you're overtaking a two-wheeled bike you have to be AT LEAST 1.5m away or we're allowed to key your car. Have a lovely day.

Unscheduled photo dump because I was treated on my walk to work today to two quite different "bird enjoys spring flowers" experiences. Tūī: "I shall delicately sip nectar yum yum" Kererū: "FEED ME FLOWER"
Tui reaches up to sip from a white blossomTui curls around a white and pink flower cluster, about to drink.kereru bends around a kowhai branch, about to snip a flower off with its beak.kereru attempts to stuff entire kowhai flower down its cavernous gob. It ate about another half dozen in the minute after I took this photo.

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

At the Hamilton PSA debate, candidates were asked about disability NZF: Incoherent answer Labour: We don't have a policy announced Opportunities: We have no policy whatsoever Me: this govt's attacks on the disabled community are unacceptable, here's our policy, it was co-written by disabled people
The Green Party will build an Aotearoa where disabled people are valued and they and their whānau live with dignity and autonomy. An Aotearoa where disabled people and whānau have access to the services they need — like transport and good quality housing — means everyone can thrive in caring communities.

Our current laws, policies and social norms mean disabled people are often denied the same rights as others and are excluded from places and activities non-disabled people take for granted. These barriers are often worse for tāngata whaikaha Māori and for disabled people from marginalised communities.

The current Government has made it harder for disabled people to access the support they deserve and which enables them to participate equally in life and their communities.

The Green Party is ambitious in its plan to create a more accessible Aotearoa by building on the Enabling Good Lives framework and grounding our approach in Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our approach will operate on a high-trust model and apply to all disabled people, including those with disabling conditions who do not currently access support. The Green Party is committed to an Aotearoa where disabled people and whānau thrive in caring communities.

When farms stop yielding, hunger does not knock — it breaks the door. Across the Horn of Africa, soils that once fed nations are turning barren. This is not “bad weather.” This is climate change rewriting our food systems in real time.

Many people don’t realize that many people in the tech industry, especially in its upper echelons, have developed a deeply harmful and delusional worldview they’re trying to impose on everyone else. That’s at the root of their misguided view of where AI is going. disconnect.blog/the-media-ha...
No, the real threat, according to these supposed geniuses, is that in ten years AI could break free from its human developers and decide it wants to kill humanity. If you’re big into science fiction, you might recognize that kind of a narrative: whether HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey or The Terminator himself, this notion that our technology will come for us makes for compelling entertainment.

For more than a decade, people in the tech industry have been slowly deluding themselves into thinking those science fictional storylines were far closer to being realized than they are in practice. They think our future is one where we need to merge with computers, cover the face of the planet with data centers, and eventually start building them on other planets to fill with digital “people.”

I am reminded of when I composited the answers of a bunch of NZES questions a few years back (with the axes being the total range it is possible to answer) essentially most of AoNZ was somewhat economically left and very socially libertarian (doing the same with AUS it came out up and more central)
If you add up a bunch of questions in the NZES that makes a theoretical total possible range each individual fits within
