Early experiences with number matter! Hearing more number words @ 1 & 2 predicts better math skills @ 4.5. This holds across language & ethnicity. Importantly, children are sensitive to specific inputs: 1 & 2yos benefit most from small numbers & cardinal values. authors.elsevier.com/a/1n7N-3irP4...

This is a deeply problematic decision by Wiley! This decision is not only PCI-hostile. It has far-reaching preprint-hostile consequences. I hope this is all based on a big misunderstanding that Wiley will soon be able to resolve. Wiley should rapidly rectify its highly problematic decision.

I'm not teaching this term, so rather than working this out with my students I will subject you to it. My read of this (tentative) pronouncement on AI in K-12. 1) It see grift & profit-seeking for Trump & co. 2) Fed power in ed is limited, can incentivize > require. & 3)THIS IS ABOUT WOMEN. 🧵

The best thing about assigning a final paper for ug intro stats where students pick a question based on their own survey data, ID the right analysis, and write it up is that I get to test whether responses to "How do you feel about statistics (1-5)?" has changed from start of semester to end.

If you're tracking the administration's claims to "end DEI" a quick thread with the docs. TL;DR: Admin swings way too wide. Careful readers point out the overreach & the illegality and/or lack of enforceability of their words. Some sue & get temp injunction. Admin rolls back, a bit. 🧵

Save the date for our February Special, Math Cognition in Context. Join us on February 24 at 11am ET / 8am PT / 4pm GMT / 5pm CET for a research article discussion, facilitated by Nicholas Vest.
Flyer for MCLS trainee February Special: Math Cognition in Context. Includes the following information: Join our trainee research chair, Nicholas Vest, for a discussion on math cognition in context. We'll be reading Draper et al. (2022) to explore the publication challenges faced by researchers studying child development in Majority World/Global South/non-WEIRD/low- and middle-income countries. The article examines publication bias, generalizability, contextual relevance (especially in measurement), the impact of the funding cycle, and offers recommendations for more inclusive journals (Draper et al., 2022, Infant and Child Development). This discussion is in collaboration with the Math Cognition Reading Group, and all members are welcome to attend.

No, we don't need investigations. We don't need Senators posting on social media. We need you to literally grind everything to a halt in the Senate & get in front of microphones on the Capitol steps calling for the fascists to resign & your GOP colleagues to vote with you to impeach & remove them.
