New paper 🍼📄 ManyBabies 3 is out (open access, registered report in Developmental Science). 30 labs, 33 languages, 839 infants set out to replicate a textbook finding: 7-month-olds learn abstract rules from speech (@garymarcus.bsky.social et al., 1999). We didn’t find it. 🧵

This is worse than a crime, it’s a mistake. Trump/Witkoff/Kushner still think this war is about a piece of territory. Putin would simply pocket the territorial gain & move on to using the negotiations to push his ultimate aim of controlling Ukraine.

I’m aware that it sounds hawkish to some, but only more weapons to the defender can change the calculus of the attacker. If Putin fears that Ukraine may win or if economic pressure on Russia becomes too high, then MAYBE he’ll agree to real talks.+

Open Science Framework (OSF) now ending a large part of its functions. “Of course we pursue grants continuously, with mixed success. For example, the NSF has a mid-scale infrastructure program to which we applied several times. This would have addressed the entire resource gap for five years. 1/2

Pretty confused ab the coming @cos.io changes to OSF. looks like they’re phasing out “projects” (ie where u share/store code, stimuli, etc) which has been a keystone for our replicable pipelines: the info recreates our manuscript, figs, analyses, etc & lets u do ur own. As of this morning, Kyiv authorities report that nearly two dozen people were confirmed injured after the mass attack, and at least 16 have been killed in the surrounding oblast, including eight civilians waiting for a train at a village station.

Kyiv under heavy missile attack, massive fires in multiple districts of the city have been reported. Reported hits in the suburbs as well. An estimated 30 or so missiles have been launched at Kyiv so far, and at least a dozen rocket drones are also in the air.

It would be nice if peace were at hand. But I don't understand Graham's statement in the 1st para that Putin has "been clear in recent months" that he wants "to bring the fighting to an end." Discussing diplomacy in Ru-Ukr war always benefits Ru. If I say talks are unlikely to work because Ru demands surrender terms and only Ukr has compromised, some still hear Ukr intransigence; if Ze says he wants to restart talks, journos ask me whether Ukrainians are tired and want to stop fighting.
