And like, I honestly have no fucking interest in persuading libs. The work will get done, they'll try and stop us, and then as soon as we win they'll claim it was them all along anyway. Fuck em. But the transmission within the movement is also badly affected and that is a problem.

When direct action is partially successful it is repressed so hard it becomes difficult to speak about without getting yourself a knock at the door. The successes of the Animal Liberation movement are all terrorism now. The wins of green movements unspeakable.

Botley Road has reopened at the railway bridge after 1,258 days. The new bridge includes cycleways on each side and enough headroom for a full-height double decker to pass. An extra rail span on the western side will give access to a forthcoming Platform 5 at Oxford station.

If you're sacrificing trans votes and goodwill because you think it will be an overall political gain, you can't expect to do that and still have our votes and goodwill. You sacrificed those, remember?

I won't post the video, but this weekend, three leaders of an anti-migrant protest in Bicester held down and choked a Black guy until he was barely conscious, and only stopped after the cops told them to. None of them were arrested, and they were allowed to lead a march through the town afterwards.

Not also trying to say that these forms of mutual aid are the ideal form either. Tbh the whole practice is more diverse and experimental than people give it credit for: trying to meet needs through community solidarity building, technology and distribution in new ways, learning from past efforts.

In slight defence of the left here, there's been a long current on the left of criticism of "mutual aid" as GFM appeals being just the widely criticised charity model under a rebrand. A lot of actual mutual aid (not personal GFM appeals) is about organising socialised aid organisations.

Love Camille's mention that abortion can actually be more accessible via community infrastructure to support self managed care, vs countries where it's theoretically legal but requires dealing with hostile clinicians, delays, 'papers please', ££££ costs to go private Trans healthcare 🤝 abortions!

Currently, if you don't have a passport, the ferry is your only route from Ireland into the UK to access an abortion. We've supported several people over the last few weeks who didn't have a passport and so had to travel by ferry.
RTE headline: "Ferry passengers to require passport for UK travel from next month" and additional text from ASN: "This change is yet another barrier to travelling for an abortion"

Well, this was inevitable. Forstater is now using her own case to argue that racism should/is protected as a philosophical belief 🤮
"Even comments which are “serious, severely hurtful and
prejudicial”are covered by Article 10 of the European Convention on Human rights (freedom of expression) which doesn't mean absolute freedom of expression in a situations, but employers should treat beliefs equally.

As the judge said in my case even beliefs that are profoundly distressing and offensive to many others are beliefs that must be tolerated in a pluralist society.""Cofnas's hereditarian belief has already been found to be "worthy of respect in a democratic society" by a court in the UK.

Though not binding in Belgium, but its anti-discrimination law is based on the same principle.

Still it's better to have a good job than a good legal case.

Ghent uni could string out the suspension - the process is the punishment.

If there are calls for a staff member to be discriminated against because of their beliefs the answer should be No (unless the belief falls below the v low threshold for belief discrimination), not "oh well if 2000 people object..."

It's interesting and positive to see the ongoing understanding of how crime and punishment based models of safety and harm are bad at dealing with both because they treat the criminal as an aberrant outlier to be exceptionalised while overlooking how road deaths aren't just down to individuals.

This is an incredible read, but the point about numbers stays with me too. In the early 2000s, local institutions said they'd never dealt with a trans kid before. One estimated that there were 5 to 10 trans people in an area of 300,000. I cried when the last census said there were ~1000 of us here

A photograph from a trans rights protest in a busy city centre with two people sitting at the front and 5 people standing at the back one of whom is holding a trans flag. There are four placards stating "Let trans women speak," "Runescape made me Trans," "Trans rights are Women's Rights" and "Your common sense isn't our Common Sense."

Most of safeguarding involves sub-carceral responses to reduce chances of harms happening. Most crisis assault and abuse support is focused on providing resources to the victim rather than securing prosecution potentially at the cost of the victim.
