How much will the referendum on having a referendum, and on 9 questions that can’t be provincially implemented cost? $90 million tax dollars. 60,000 workers to be hired by Elections Alberta. You could build 3 schools for that. That’s your money #ableg www.elections.ab.ca/resources/me...

Some countries are better positioned to weather this energy crisis than they would have been just a few years ago. That's because of the rapid growth of renewable energy, battery systems and electric vehicles. @npr.org interviewed me for this excellent piece: www.npr.org/2026/03/16/n...

Oil and gas prices are soaring. Some countries are ready with solar panels and EVs
As an energy crisis grows, some countries are more prepared because of renewable energy and electric vehicles. Pakistan reduced its reliance on imported natural gas because of the growth of solar.

Thx, rage politics. "The U.S. was the only country surveyed where a majority had such negative views of their countrymen." US: 53% say their fellow citizens are morally BAD. Canada: 92% say fellow Canadians are GOOD. ❤️ wapo.st/4d4DgLi via @pewresearch.org @washingtonpost.com

Did you know? The Provincial government has increased their property taxes on Calgarians by 57% over four years, well above inflation and population growth. They're now imposing the largest property tax increase in Calgary's history with a 21% hike, or about $350 for the typical family.

We don't have any money and we don't have any migration. I have the perfect idea -- let's spend millions on a referendum.

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

It will be interesting to see how overriding charter rights, forcing a rejected labour deal on workers, and threatening substantial fines will impact Alberta's plan to add and recruit 3,000 new teachers over the next 3 years.

While results from the Madison, Wisconsin $500/mo basic income pilot aren’t finalized, preliminary findings show a higher rate of families receiving payments were employed full-time halfway through the program, at the end of the year and six months later than families in the program’s control group.

Madison program gave away cash. People worked even more.
While the privately funded Madison Forward Fund showed promising results, Republican lawmakers are trying to block state funding for similar programs.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Good post by Matt Yglesias today. I would love to see more intellectual energy put into how to make urban spaces more accessible for children. Cities have so many opportunities for children, but they often lack appropriate residential spaces. 🧵
