My favourite BlueSky genre is old left wing people who get offended when you say that all the data shows older voters are more right wing.

A key point in a good thread- the debates and the claim that social issues are distracting from ‘socialism’ has been a claim the party has always faced.

MP Chain — How many MPs can you recognise?
Pick the named MP from two portraits. One wrong answer ends your chain.

A sign of how brainworms damage you is that Syed is claiming the AFD is a sister party to reform- it isn’t! The AFD is a far right party with a lot of neo Nazis- Reform is not!

A result that wasn’t a surprise but I hope we remember how awfully the no side acted- they blocked it when the commons passed it and threw a tantrum; and then used a lot of well being advocacy groups to give them cover for their own deeply religious reasons.

A ridiculous attack by a Government minister on parliamentary scrutiny. He should ask how many written questions Labour opposition ministers tabled? (It was a lot!)

A really good interview and telling that Cleverly talks in a way about London that Tories basically stopped doing in 2022- he will be a strong candidate and the race could easily be 2008 all over again.

I can't believe the amount of recent history revisionism in the UK. Response to Polish immigration was so severe that it successfully led to Brexit. BREXIT. And tanked British economy. This happened last decade, you can just Google it.
Post on X Remember in early 2000s thousands of Polish men immigrated over to UK cause their economy crashed but no one said fuck all cause they came to work, minded their own buisness an left our kids alone.....

Response Most Poles who emigrated to the UK in the early 2000s remember something completely different and photo of xenophobic graffiti

Just another shoutout to @navalairhistory.com - our publisher (without our knowledge) used AI to generate an ad for Breaking Rommel and placed it in Storia Militare. When we found out we asked Matt to produce something similar but utilising his artist's skills. We are all very happy with the result.

Much like exempting an item from VAT or adding a random topic to the curriculum, we now have a new thing for useless politicians and campaign groups to call for which will have no real impact.

A key point the right forget is that in the U.K. we lock up more people than average, treat them terribly and then act shocked when no one wants to work in our prisons and re-offending is high- Michael Howard’s model has failed

The problem with the populism that both Keir and Andy dabble in is that on immigration it leads you down to a path like this. A racist pogrom is a pogrom and it should be loudly renounced as the alternative is ending up in a place like we did in Belfast where racist mobs search targets

The Times corrects its splash story headlined "Migrant care workers bring dozens of family members." The Times got this totally wrong. It then used its own error as the basis for an editorial calling explicitly for forced expulsions of people living here legally. www.thetimes.com/comment/regi...
In a headline and a leading article we said migrant care workers were each bringing up to 15 family members with them (News, Comment, Jul 6). This was incorrect. The ratio of 15 to 1 was that of new visa approvals for Cameroonian care workers to visa approvals for family members of all Cameroonian care workers already in the UK in 2025-26. The same applies to arrivals from Ghana, Bangladesh and India. There is no connection between new visa approvals for care workers, who are not allowed to bring any dependants at all, and visas issued to the family members of care workers who were here already.

Amusing to see so many commentators lose their minds about Burnham before he’s even done anything. Many have been used to being able to bore nebulously about liberal metropolitan elites. Doesn’t work so well against the MP for Makerfield who anchors his politics in the north.

A bad trend since 2019 has been using the removal of the whip (and lesser sanctions) to make parliamentary scrutiny worse- if Labour MPs were not as terrified in the first 12 months fewer stupid things would have happened.

This is key- Labour have pumped out so much messaging about removals, new agreements, ending hotels etc but it makes no difference for single issue voters who broadly hate Labour and modern social democracy. You can’t win on a hardline message of ‘reform is right, vote Labour’

Two historic heatwaves in two consecutive months, with monthly records broken in both, something not achieved since 1911 and not something achieved by such a margin either. May's record was broken by over 2ºC, and June's record is likely to go by perhaps 3ºC, extraordinary.
