I would note the dignity and respect line is rarely used by those who actually support trans rights! I hate the phrase as it’s used as a cop out

This is so true especially in London; the arts of the 70s, 90s and early 2000s was built off cheapish rents (in pretty horrible!) parts of the city

This is not true. There has been widespread agreement that western, southern and London rail access will need a public subsidy to build it.

Altreik @altreik.bsky.social · 3h
I mean it is clear expansion will need public money to pay for the extra rail investment needed for a third runway

I would add his response to Israel/Gaza- a complete failure to engage with the PLP, to read public opinion, to understand social media and a massive obsession with ‘what will the Times write about my stance’ rather than ‘what is right and what is in my own interest’.

I mean police cases as in ‘cases where police officers shared information about the victims’.

Altreik @altreik.bsky.social · 17h
We also know from the police cases of misuse of personal data that the reason isnt ‘flog to the press’ but rather ‘people want to know extra details to talk to their colleagues or family/friends about’

It was even funnier as they briefed they wanted someone who was dynamic and prepared to shake up Whitehall!

I feel I am stupid in that I don’t understand how an employment tribunal case can have such a sweeping impact but I guess it’s parliaments fault for not legislating saying ‘this is ridiculous’

Ahh yeah I recently moved back to using my espresso machine over the non-branded mocha pot and I remember what strong coffee tasted like

Even before his ballet comments I heard that the the campaign he did for his Oscar for ACU and then Marty supreme really damaged his brand

I am biased but I suspect he would benefit from a return to indie cinema or the stage to atone for his sins- I feel it he had got his Oscar for CMBYN (he was robbed!) he would have been able to have more flexibility

I read a CAMRA mag for the first time and it was the sanest thing I had read about the hospitality sector, beer consumption and Thatcherism that I had read!

Yeah like it’s an over simplification I know but Russia had a very clear route in the 2000s to being a strong power who we let do what they want in Georgia and Chechnya!

His father was obviously very different to him but they both shared a view that the values that underpin the traditions matter more than the traditions and the monarchy should change to conserve itself- neither were like George VI and V who were borish dull right wingers

Extremely interested in agriculture and nature; concerned about the ‘urban poor’, an interest in the military and a sense that as a traditionalist you have to care about about the things that values that underpin the traditions

I’ve said before he is one of the last remaining rural old school liberals from 1914 era which is why his politics are so hard to put on a modern map.

I miss the smugness you could get from finding a Fred Perry Jumper for £10, or a pay of Levi’s for £12!

Oh same I know others have said it but it’s ruined charity shops too- I saw an M&S brand shirt for £16 in my local one! I want to support them but I don’t like paying £16- but they have to charge that because of vinted

Altreik @altreik.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
There was an article in the Times about people paying! One of them claimed to have lost thousands

Altreik @altreik.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
The value of them was already questionable especially as I always found at least one was crap and you’d think ‘would I have paid £3 for this alone’

And crucially despite their efforts South Africa and Rhodesia didn’t attract huge levels of migration from whites- in the way that Israel did from Jews from the USSR in the 80s/90s or those from the US in more recent years.

Altreik @altreik.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
I don’t think this is correct though- in both South Africa and Rhodesia white settlers were either a smallish minority (20% in South Africa iirc) or even smaller in Rhodesia and the opposition was united under one political block and there was a clear demand from said block

It’s a real achievement that they both phrase stuff so oddly I can’t even work out who is on which side of the argument!

100%. It just meant every PR, lobbyist and charity would find a way to shoe horn in growth in the same way they did with levelling up!

Also he just should have switched Stephen K and Chris Bryant! Or given it to one of the Starmer loyalists who were good on Brexit/security stuff

My reading is that Chris is made to be the leader of the house but his quite openly previously hostile relationship with the speaker made this not possible- but he is made for culture!

It was very heavily suggested that the Palace took advice about dismissing a PM from office in June 2022.

I love the idea that the Labour whips actually cared or even knew when the Green conference was! Zack really has main character syndrome.

I like much like the USSR we have a deluded sense of our former military power when it was very heavily reliant on large numbers of troops from the dominions and colonies. I always wondered how we fought a three front war and the answer was- the colonies!

If the choice is between an argument that Britain’s always been a racist reactionary country or ‘we settled these issues in the 1990s stop being weird and just enjoy society’ I think the latter is a lot stronger, wider reaching and easier to argue

I mean even if she used another example such as footballers from 2010 people would still complain that it’s not accurate- I don’t think it’s an issue for the people the argument is aimed at though
