So Tomino is acknowledging that there is a there there, between Garma and Char, but he is being dismissive about it. I also think that Tomino can be full of shit, as that belief is full of shit, for a lot of reasons.

Good article. I think one context I'd like to mention about "They're young" comment is a general prevailing culture attitude about sexuality in Japan that perceives that in adolesecent there is fleeting phase of homoromaticism that passes with adulthood.

Now that Life Out of Order, the sequel to the Time Traveler’s Wife, is now a book you can find on shelves ranging from your local book store to places like Half Price Books, it's probably a good time to share this interview I did with Audrey Niffenegger from last month's print issue of New City!

Time Between Worlds: Audrey Niffenegger on the Sequel to "The Time Traveler's Wife"
At her Northwest Side home, the author discusses "Life Out of Order," her artistic process, climate optimism versus pessimism and the pressure of following a phenomenon.

Today is the release date of Audrey Niffenegger's Life Out of Order, a sequel to the Time Traveler's Wife. I found Life Out of Order much richer and more complex than TTW -- it's a deeply humane novel about making and preserving art in the face of unspeakable horror. buttondown.com/charliejane/...

Very saddened to say I won’t be able to headline Tim Pool’s student event in Chicago this week. I unfortunately have other plans.
Hi Katherine,
Timcast Media is partnering with the Chicago Thinker to host a student event in Chicago on October 9 at 4:00 PM.
The event will feature a one-on-one conversation with Tim Pool followed by a live student Q&A. To create a dynamic and balanced dialogue, we are specifically seeking a featured guest to represent a left-leaning perspective.
Timcast Media will fully cover and arrange all travel and accommodations.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

Hi Lisa,
Sorry, I'll be too busy slamming my hand in a car door that day to talk with Tim. Hope you understand.

Bouie's analysis mirrors my own. I think Trump's success at the ballot reflects the political acsendecy of the Boomers and Gen X, whose strong memories of Watergate have entrenched a universal skepticism. The idea that Trump is honest about his dishonesty and corruption is their disease.

I will say, as an author, you get to a point where you *hate* your book, so seeing a review where someone loves it for the things it does makes you remember that once you loved it too and had fun writing it. It's a nice feeling. I almost miss being in Aleks's stupid head. Almost. It is Aleks.

In reference to Barrett's participation in this shit, I find it funny that falsely pious of our flock will call you a cafeteria Catholic for supporting queer people or reproductive rights, but not for signing off on executions, a thing that even the conservative popes have been staunchly opposed to.

It feels genuinely ridiculous having to say this, but the point of art is to connect with another human. Someone thought of that painting or melodic line or scene or paragraph that is suddenly making you weep, and that means that they saw you and understood you without even meeting you.

I really do think tech crossed a line at some point between "helping you do the things you want to do" on the one hand, and "helping you do the things tech wants you to do" on the other. At this point, we're all contorting ourselves to live how the tech industry thinks we should be living.

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

The world would be better if the Republican party was full of Ainsley Hayes! Maybe there would be such a thing as common ground! But you can't reason with delusion. You can't negotiate with it. You can only try to shatter it.

Climate debates leads to this point for a reason. It would be one thing if we were still debating with a Romney, someone who understood this is real, but doesn't think it is important enough to ruin economic policy. It is another thing to debate with the guy who think windmills steal the wind.

There is a fantasy version of conservatism that libs want to exist as exemplified by the West Wing character Ainsley Hayes. We would rather it be that we are debating with a reasonable person with different principles than face the reality that 40 percent of the nation has succumbed to delusions.
