🧵, but also I REALLY want to emphasize "the book is written the way it is for a reason." I sometimes see things like "I don't know if X was on purpose" and yes, yes it was. Unless it's an actual typo or some formatting accident it's on purpose. The author did that on purpose.

Professional photograph of a squirrel leaping down from a branch at a very startled-looking owl. The owl’s yellow eyes are wide as it looks over its shoulder up at the squirrel who clearly has zero regard for his own life, his mouth open as if shouting WITNESS ME, or potentially some sort of justification for this surprise attack, Inigo Montoya style. Whatever the Owl has to say in return is definitely in all caps.

Butterbutt. An older comic.
A four-panel comic titled "yellow-rumped warbler poem". In panel 1, a yellow-rumped warbler stands on a branch in a late autumn scene, and says "Fall is here." In panel 2, the warbler watches a brown leaf fall to the ground, and says "Winter's near." In panel 3, the warbler faces the viewer as brown leaves fall, and says "Need some cheer?" In panel 4, the warbler is showing its luminous yellow rump, and cheerfully says "See my rear."

A graphic of Ursula Vernon's paintings featuring a goat rabbit creature with a golden halo around it. In the first one it is holding a yellow flowered stem and gestures its other arm out to the side. In the second painting it is pulling the skin around its eyes as one leg is bent upwards. The text on the graphic reads "odd spirit prints by Ursula Vernon".Two more paintings by Ursual. One is of a dog like creature with a leather hat on that covers its eyes, and green electric energy radiates from it. It also radiates from its paws. The second painting is of an owl like creature wearing a necklace and a robe, holding a stick with a feather dangling from it. A yellow halo is behind her head. The last piece of art from Ursula, featuring a white rabbit creature (wearing a hood, a shirt, gloves, and a skirt) standing in a lush field of bushes and flowers looking up at the moon.

“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”
