#nzpol How do parties stack up when it comes to fair wages for some of the lowest-paid working New Zealanders? Read through what they have to say on the living wage and the minimum wage:
NZCTU Policy Scorecards for Working People. Question: “Will you help address the cost of living by setting the minimum wage above inflation for the next 3 years?” Results: Labour - Yes; National - Unclear; ACT - No; Green - Yes; Te Pāti Māori - Yes; New Zealand First - Yes; Alliance - Yes; Opportunities Party - No policy. Green tick indicates Yes, red cross indicates No, grey symbol indicates Unclear or No policy. A bit of a disaster in Hokitika currently 😬 The Westland District Council building had to close last week due to structural issues Now the Pakiwaitara Building opposite, holding the I-Site, Stonewood Homes, Popup Library, Batch Cafe, & AA services has had to close due to structural issues as well
Built as the Hokitika Post office in the 1950s, and now currently the Westland District Council building. The building had a third floor built in the early 1990s after its conversion into a council office blockThe Pakiwaitara Building, Formerly the site of the RNZ Road Services sheds was built around 1995 for Mountain Jade as a massive pounamu and gold based tourism venture. Up till yesterday it held the Hokitika I-Site, Mayors Taskforce for Jobs office, temporary council offices for Westland District Council, AA services, the Pop up Library as Westland Library is currently closed for refurbishment, and the Batch Cafe

Looking through some old stuff and found this cartoon I cut out c1996. They just never really have new ideas, just new packaging. (For younger readers - right wing think tank the NZ Initiative formed out of a merger of the NZ Business Roundtable and the NZ Institute in 2012.)
Photo of a black and white cartoon with a bunch of men sitting around an executive board table. A sign in front reads “Quiet please, Roundtable in session”. From left to right they are saying:
“The govt should get out of education and health…”
“We need more contestability in social welfare…”
“the govt should sell ACC and the post office…”
“We should privatise electricity and roading…”
“Seen the polls? Winston could be the next PM”
“That’s disgraceful. What happened to the New Zealand we all knew and loved?”
