Myself & my senior infant (with baby in tow) did a wee tour of the local pickets and honked away while I explained strikes to her. Then we picked up her sister from preschool and made buns for her teachers before walking down to give them out at the picket line. #uptheworkers

As a member of the public, I support striking workers today. Public sector workers are woefully undervalued, and I thought we learned that lesson during the COVID lockdowns, but apparently we need a reminder. I want workers to be paid fairly for the valuable services they provide. Yup the unions!

Always funny when people get pissy about, of all things, *work to rule*. They are still doing their jobs, to the letter of the law in fact. That is causing problems is a serious indictment of how much extra people are expected to do in their job.

I'm delighted someone has finally been really looking into this. The text here makes it clear that this particular aspect of the budget was little more than propaganda. How can this be in the budget when they have no idea what figures actually apply? www.rte.ie/news/ireland...
Screenshot from linked article reads:

An obvious question for the Department and the Minister this week was how many parents are in each band, but astonishingly, the information was unavailable - including the number of Core Funding providers offering Band E and Band F services.

The information, we were told, is being collected through National Childcare Scheme registrations for the current programme year, which runs from September 2026 to August 2027.

While data is expected to provide details of the fees and subsidies that apply to individual children, the department has said gathering and analysing it would take time.

Me: oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Spooky shopkeeper: yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Me: yes, I know how shops work

Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit

I love these books - they were a secret language between me, my dad, my brother & my brother's friends - I feel ridiculously nostalgic seeing them again. Lucky whoever finds them in Secondhand - hope you enjoy the fish!
Angled view of Douglas Adams’ five-book Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy box set, standing on piles of secondhand books at Chapters. The bright yellow slipcase displays the series title, a blue towel and a “42 anniversary collection” badge. All five dark blue book spines are visible.

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.
DoorDash messed up.
They repeatedly left more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers underpaid or paid late, causing them immense stress and financial difficulty.
That's unacceptable.
We've secured a $131.5M settlement from
DoorDash - the largest worker settlement in NYC history and largest delivery worker settlement in
American municipal history.
Every worker will be paid what they are owed, and every company will be forced to abide by the laws of this city.

Sometimes society at large rejects certain ideas because they’ve been thoroughly shown to be wrong and also because they suck and the people who espouse them suck and when someone comes around arguing those ideas should be part of some edgy modern debate we can and should shun them and move on.

You were a normal person in life, but hundreds of years later, you still haven't had your "third" death. You decide to find out why.

Kinda loathe those "How To Read X Books A Year" posts on Instagram - hitting a certain number doesn't matter! Reading short books so you can hit an arbitrary target doesn't matter! Read what you enjoy, when you can enjoy it! Don't let the village elders know it's books of ancient curses! That's it!
