Anthropic banning “abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

The fact that e-bikes are a replacement for cars is an important part of the conversation missing from the ongoing moral panic. It doesn't mean that things like high speed e-motos aren't a concern! But if you care about safer streets, electric micro-mobility devices can't be viewed in a vacuum.

Austin police murdered Anthoneil Williams II, 17 years old. He called 911 on himself from a playground at 3:51am. 34 minutes later, officers gave him 5 seconds to comply, then opened fire. The "weapon" was a water bottle. Let's Address Texas State Director Saadia Mirza shares the full story.

I say it again and again: Because we don’t learn the real history of this country, we do not understand what this country is capable of. After 1870, 22 Black men served in Congress. By 1901, because of racist SCOTUS rulings, electoral coups and election cheating and violence, there were none.

For me a key trauma recovery tool is writing. Writing in my journal, making notes, making lists. Trying to remember & work all this out in your head is a mistake, especially if dissociation is part of your symptom picture (& it is). Document & evolve your recovery plan on paper.

By ignoring the question “what kind of person should I be?,” liberalism ceded that territory to conservatives. And conservative answers too often point toward rigidity, hierarchy, and suspicion of difference, and away from both flourishing and freedom. 3/

Authoritarians use performative lying to mark who is for, and more importantly, against their regimes. The point isn’t determining truth. The point is creating an ingroup whose loyalty is assured through ritually denying reality and an easily recognizable outgroup that refuses the delusion.

The reason people like me support tolerance isn't because we think that Evangelicals have great points about LGBTQ issues, it's because we recognize that in the end, what matters is that trans people can be trans, even if Evangelicals wish they wouldn't, and vice versa. That's a functional society.
