Does Emily Gallagher not realize that her district hasn’t gotten any more affordable because it’s become a magnet for people who would have displaced other people in other neighborhoods?

Christa Pike was convicted of murdering a classmate in 1995. It was not clear what went wrong in the execution or what her current medical condition was.

This is an aspect of street design I’m always shocked I hear very little on. We should have a fully staffed up department in DOT that is just going around the city and filling in these painted brown areas with sidewalk as fast as they can, all the time. The plans are literally drawn on the road.

For instance, this is a bad design. You've taken up half of the painted sidewalk extension space with planters because it's the only way the city can think of to keep drivers from taking up pedestrian space. Just build out the concrete sidewalk!
A streetview screenshot of 35th St and 7th Ave showing giant planters blocking the space that's supposed to be for pedestrians.

This part. Senators and Congresspeople being completely unqualified and stupid is only funny if there are electoral and legislative consequences for it.

I’m not claiming you’re wrong on this, but I am asking for a stat that shows what you’re saying. Everything you’re talking about is rates of change or comparison to others in 2026. Compare the same metric between 2026 and 2008 to make your point.

That’s how they’re doing relative to others which certainly might contribute to perceptions of things being worse, especially when social media is full of people showing luxury lifestyles. But what are the markers that working class economy is worse compared to the working class economy of 2008?

I’m not an editor or trained journalist but it feels like if you have this kind of updated statement from an eyewitness maybe the entire piece and headline should be rewritten, police saw this all unwind and the operator of a 20? 40? ton piece of industrial equipment ignored their orders?
"The truck was turning the corner, and he didn't see them," Puangsawasdi said. "The police were right there, and they were yelling at the truck driver, 'Stop! Stop!' He didn't understand what was going on."

“Attention everyone. There are 150 accessible subway stations. Please check MTA.info/elevators for real time elevator status at your station.” It infuriates me to hear this announcement arriving into a station that doesn’t have an elevator. It’s 100% pure noise pollution.

Announcement pollution is one of those things that’s a huge problem but complaining about it sounds like nitpicking. It’s a respect and safety issue. Training riders to tune out announcements has consequences when you finally announce something important!

I went to camp with a kid who was easily a foot taller than the other kids. No matter the sport, everyone wanted him on their team and no one complained about it being unsafe or unfair for him to compete against smaller kids. The whole safety and fairness argument against trans kids in sports is BS.
