Subway announcement pollution isn't just noise pollution. Using "alert" space for generic and benign messages like this just means riders will stop paying attention to alerts.

Famously, people decide whether or not they want to go somewhere based on local hotel construction policy, and not building them stops any desire to visit.
You can't prevent leisure tourists from coming, can you?
That's the effect of setting the limits. The demand can't grow if there's no accommodations for them. Already this summer we're seeing that there are people who can't come because they can't find a place to stay. We're not going to respond to growing demand.

Seems like Queens is on a path to make an anti-vaxxer (Milner) judge. Nothing infuriates me more than the completely information-free judge races in NYC. At least this one wasn't a pick two with two options.

Amazing illustration of why you shouldn't let form beat out function. Why is the easiest distinction to make on this map between 3 and 4 inches, with 6 to 12 nearly indistinguishable?

I feel like blasting through that wall and refreshing some paint could get a pretty sensible traffic flow going. A flex barrier between the bike and ped lanes here at the entrance would help keep conflict areas minimal.

Why does DOT use sidewalk materials and tactile pavers on bike ramps? This seems to be indicating to vision-impaired people that they're stepping into a crosswalk, not a bike lane. Isn't the appropriate design tactile pavers to delineate the bike area of the sidewalk from the walking area?

Feels like the screens in the new subway cars forgot that some of the route colors are too light for white text. First stop is totally illegible!

Drives me crazy all the little ways this city is car-brained, such as it’s seeming inability to figure out how to keep cars out of a space without walling it off to everyone. All this needs is to be one inch narrower than a car. Instead a huge concrete barrier forces everyone to a choke point.
A painted sidewalk extension on a New York City street is protected from car traffic by concrete barriers, but at the end of the lane another barrier closes off the painted area forcing all passengers onto the small sidewalk

Hundreds of bus riders stuck in traffic so that a few dozen people can park their cars on Woodhaven Blvd. Bus lanes should always be 24/7, especially on a route that has high weekend ridership.

This strikes me as so comically out of touch with how voters perceive (or are even aware of) what the primary is and how it works that I’m not inclined to trust this person’s judgement on other questions either. Absolutely nobody thinks of the primary as “voting for delegates.”
Do you have any concerns about that process being seen as undemocratic by voters?
Absolutely not. Some of these delegates were actually elected on the same ballot that the presidential candidates ran on.
Some states actually placed the names of delegates on the ballot. In the states that don't do that, delegates were elected in open, well-publicized meetings after the primary. In other words, anybody who's a bona fide Democrat can sign up and register to run for delegate. And then you go to a congressional district caucus or a state convention or some gathering, and you bring with you as many friends as you possibly can. That's why these delegates tend to be local leaders of some sort or another. This is true in the Republican Party as well.

Am I completely insane or wasn’t a core part of the initial pitch for Siri that it *could* follow conversation like this!?
Introduced in 2011 as the original virtual assistant in every iPhone, Siri had been limited for years to individual requests and had never been able to follow a conversation. It often misunderstood questions. ChatGPT, on the other hand, knew that if someone asked for the weather in San Francisco and then said,
"What about New York?" that user wanted another forecast.
