"The False Erinyes" By me Digital Collage and Digital Painting #art #collage #illustration
Digital collage of a theater stage. A wooden floor red curtains and a dark green backdrop with hints of foliage. On the stage a scene plays out. A boy made of paper hung on a red string weeps and cries as he is attacked by strange creatures. The creatures are paper birds, but their heads are scissors with gold handles. Bits of paper flutter down and one of the creatures has its "beak " scissor blades open about to snip the red thread.

Resident Evil was less a film adaptation of a Resident Evil game than it was a film adaptation of a Twitch stream of someone playing and commenting on a Resident Evil game. As effective and well-executed as the horror was, it was continually undercut by the self-aware motormouth commentary.

All the talk lately about AI cults is a good reminder that anyone can fall into a cult. The people in these AI cults all seem like the types who would be absolutely certain THEY would never fall for a cult, much less a religious one. And yet there they are in a religious cult.

Republicans did a great job of convincing people to think of themselves as taxpayers (paying customers) than citizens. This plus the explosion of opinion versus news and the horse race versus issue coverage.

As soon as I even heard about Camp Miasma, I wanted to read Jude Doyle’s response to it. It is here, and it is wonderful and vulnerable and incisive. Speaking as a trans person who is herself navigating the complexities of desire, I feel seen and understood by Jude’s reading of the movie.

One step closer to my ideal: hiding self-reposts. I understand that people repost their posts to hit different time zones and try to stand out in the deluge, but there are some people I've followed who repost themselves so frequently that they *become* the deluge.

This thread is about criticism and theater but it applies very well to criticism & games. The ability of skilled game critics to put a new release into historic & genre context is invaluable. But game criticism usually favors the naïve buyer—often resulting in critique adrift in an eternal present.

I know the "as a parent of a child with autism" framing is often problematic and rightfully scorned, but as a parent of a child with autism, I am absolutely crushed by the now-legal gutting of the Department of Education. The life of my child, his friends, and his classmates is now measurably worse.

Have you ever thought about how “hermenutical,” the adj. form of hermenutics, the theory of interpretation of scripture, sounds remarkably like “Herman’s Neuticles,” the testicle prosthetics of someone named Herman? Maybe Melville? … No?
