Yeah, I bet each subregion has its own! My (French) grandfather was a sailor, and he said that whenever you have a cold, you do the "technique of the hat": you go to bed with a bottle of rum, put your hat on one side of the bed, and drink until you see it on the other side. Then just sleep. :)

They do something similar to that in Cyprus! It's a folk cure. They use this extremely potent alcohol, as potent as moonshine or more if possible. And they use it for everything! You have a cough? You drink that. Bestie said it's called Zedivania. She's from Cyprus & England and told me about it!
