Robin Swann's constituency office scared the bejesus out of me at least 4 times tonight though. Why are politicians in Northern Ireland so fond of huge pictures of themselves?
The front window of a shop. A larger than life image of a mediocre middle aged man in a suit and tie with the Queen Elizabeth tower adorns the window. ,

Going to bed knackered but very happy. Just spent a lovely evening with people who are trying to bring positivity into the town they live in. They run what is essentially a youth club for adults. 😍 I did some sewing with them.
A person using a sewing machine to free motion embroider a flower onto yellow fabric. A denim heart with lots of different stitches all over it.

The Boy is doing a presentation in school about the moon landings and I'm trying to convince him to put in the bit about Buzz Aldrin's pee storage malfunction.

Time is so weird. This day 30 years ago I got on the train to school and found out that a good friend had been killed in a car accident the day before. It feels incompressible that that day was 30 years ago. I remember so much of it like it was yesterday.

@louiestowell.bsky.social The Boy was very excited to see Loki in the Phoenix. 😁 I love that even though he's 14 he still allows himself to get excited about these things.

When are they going to re-nationalise the postal service? I was watching a TV show from 25 years ago and they were talking about waiting for the second post. Meanwhile we are averaging post once a fortnight ATM.

I sometimes wish curses were an actual thing. For those times when someone treats someone like crap but you can't do anything about it.

They should let the OO match down the Garvaghy Road but residents should be allowed to play whatever non-paramilitary coded music they want on outdoor gig sized speakers at them. YMCA would be hilarious. They wouldn't be able to stop themselves marching in time.

Ok folks. It's getting serious now. It's only a week and a half before the Knitting and Stitching Show in London. I continue to be crap about telling people about my class on the 9th October. If you have always wanted me to teach you sewing but you live too far away this is your chance!!!!
Mini lavender cushions in a variety of pretty colours. You could be making one with me!

I don’t feel the Orange Order represents or speaks for me, but I know it was important to my Grandad. He was so proud taking us on marches through Portadown when I was a child. I don’t want to think ill of him, but I do believe I should leave that all in the past where it belongs.

I'm fed up with my Google Pixel trying to cram Gemini down my throat. Literally the only thing I use voice command for is setting a timer. I really don't need AI for that.

I wonder if the Orange Order realise that this sort of bullshit actively pushes moderate people away from unionism.

I'm still processing today's experience. I have genuinely never felt so supported and accepted in 14 years of being a mum. The Boy shut down in the queue to see Half Asleep Chris. I figured as 75% of people there would be autistic that there wasn't much we could do about it.

STOP CALLING FASCISTS BY THEIR STUPID TEENAGE NICKNAMES!!! Sorry. But it's really getting on my nerves. Even the news when reporting an arrest has been using Daniel Thomas's, lads on a piss up, name.

#kidlit The Boy (14) is doing Macbeth in English this term. It's made me wonder, there's loads of Shakespeare film adaptations but are there any book adaptations for kids? Either straightforward adaptation or in the way 10 Things I Hate About You was based on Taming of the Shrew.

Got a letter from the hospital. Nearly peed myself with excitement that it was a date for my surgery. Sadly no. It was however a letter to say they have a fancy new surgical robot that they'll be using for my surgery when it finally happens. I'm impressed that the NHS in NI has forked out for one.

I would say there should be an artists' Olympics if it wasn't for the fact competition would ruin the joy of it. Maybe no competitive element, just televised artistic endeavours. Like an updated Bob Ross with different mediums.

I keep getting adverts for the Harry Potter audio book & it's all male characters. Which brought it home to me how the red flags for Rowling's misogyny were there all along. Every female character is a sidekick and is either childless or a mother who had no role in the story outside being a mother.

The thing that drives me to distraction about psychology is it might be one of the most useful fields of study for people's everyday lives. But what gets the attention seems to be men who are only exceptional in their belief that they are right and their ability to convince others they are.

Pairing a patronising older man with very little of substance to say with a thoughtful, articulate younger woman always makes my skin crawl. Yes, I've just heard David Aaronovitch and Justin Webb being snowflakes about hearing things they don't want to on #R4Today.

In an attempt to leaven your feeds a bit, I present this classic photo of my dog being very elegant.
A tricolour rough collie lying on a green floral duvet. The only thing she is in her back with all four paws up and her head to the side. it's honestly hard to tell what you're looking at she's so floofy on the underneath.

I've been checking the source of quotes for my forthcoming book, and the performance of Gemini is extraordinary. I paste the quote into Google, and Gemini will barge in with the wrong answer over and over again. It's not an occasional thing - it's reliably wrong. Very odd.

An infographic showing the number of described and estimated species for major animal groups. There are more insects than anything else. Of the remaining groups, arachnids and nematodes are the most diverse.

Someone in the thread pointed out this village is RIGHT next to a men's prison full of actual criminals - w a dedicated sex offender wing - & nobody's been so distressed by that they've had to stop litter picking In checking this I discovered they're also next to a village called Horton Cum Studly.

Just heard another one of life's really good people died this week. Frankie was the heart and soul of Coffee in the Wood in Collier's Wood. Through The Boy's little years she served coffee, babycinnos and reassurance that I wasn't fucking motherhood up. She will be so missed by everyone. 💔

Feeling a bit attacked by Downpatrick heritage railway for having the trains of my teenage years. I'm too young to be a part of heritage. 😆
An old blue and gray slam door northern Ireland railways train carriage. The memory of having to yank the door open through the open window and not fall out of the train still haunts me.The inside of one of the 'new' electric door carriages. I can smell the wet blazers and feel the wet feet of coming home from school.
