Very anxious about posting this, but I feel strongly compelled to share. I know it’s a lot to take in for a Saturday morning and I appreciate anyone for taking the time to read it.

Yeah so I was just on The One Show! Got to visit a brilliant school in Barrow and talk about the amazing LICAF-led Comic Town initiative there, and how great comics are for getting kids reading (and writing and drawing!). It’s on iPlayer here: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Fathers, talk to your boys about consent. They'll think you're cringe; fine, let them think you're cringe, doesn't matter. They need to hear it, and they need to hear it from you.

Went to a fancy awards thing in London last night! Failed to take any photos, or indeed to win any awards, but made up for it in sheer weight of canapés consumed, jobs a good ‘un. Hugest of congratulations to the brilliant Tor Freeman, Chanté Timothy & the legend the captain @jamiesmart.bsky.social!

I really do think Steve Yeowell’s work on Zenith Phase III was a high watermark for, well for comics generally tbh

One of those nights where everyone you meet asks you “are you okay? You must be knackered!” and by the end of it you start to think actually, AM I okay? I MUST be knackered.

I had to give a talk at the Booksellers Association conference the other day. A great honour! A whole evening of authors talking about their profound, important and inspiring books, and then I came on at the end with ‘yeah, so there’s all these donuts but like, they talk?’ 🤦

Pro tip for children’s authors! Occasionally when meeting children at signings and stuff, a kid will proclaim ‘I have met you before!’ and be very offended that you apparently don’t remember them.

*If they want to purely keep reading funny books, that’s great too - as we all know funny books are criminally overlooked in publishing. But it’s also really good to try encourage a wide range of reading. What ever your child loves reading = good.

You know, when I was a kid, the little suburb / village I lived in Declared Independence for a day. It was great, we all got little cardboard passports, cars going over the bridge got stopped at border control and had to pay 10p, and it was basically just an excuse for a big party outside the pub.

I used to have students reverse-engineer a script for "Chronocops": what information do you have to provide to get the plot and jokes across in this *very* tightly structured story (a parody of a parody!), while giving an artist the greatest possible latitude to be visually playful?
