The push to make it so that "websites as a destination for humans is over" is an intentional move to violate the freedom to read of individuals and move access to information into a "pay to get an opaquely intermediated version from a nontransparent source" model.

Canada plans to destroy thousands of residential school testimonies. These women are trying to save them
The 38,000 testimonies are the largest body of evidence about children’s experiences in these institutions. Journalist Connie Walker and lawyer Kimberly Murray say losing it would mean losing history — both painful and illuminating

“Can I do it?” is a terrible measure of disability. Yes, I can do it. Can I do it repeatedly? Can I do it safely? Can I do it without support? Can I do anything afterwards? Can I do it tomorrow too? What does doing it COST? These tell me a lot more about my capability.

Therefore if there is anything “non-traditional” about the subject, or framing or sequence of the piece LLMs are in fact by definition INCAPABLE of telling the story. We call it AI Slop for a reason. Because it’s a pastiche of everything that’s come before, not anything new.

Canada is preparing to spend tens of billions building a pipeline the oil companies themselves won’t finance. If this project made economic sense, industry would be leading it. Instead, the public is being asked to take the risk while foreign-owned oil companies collect the returns.

One thing that might or might not be obvious is that making one block "pedestrian only" reduces car traffic over a much larger area. I'm staying in the same neighborhood where I lived a few years ago, and the decrease in motor vehicle traffic is astounding.

Every time I return to Paris, I notice they've done more to reclaim streets from drivers and cars, including removing on-street parking, protecting cyclists from drivers, and prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists in shared spaces. Other cities can learn a lot from Paris.

In colonial Canada, access to housing is seen as a source of personal enrichment and economic production. This model has not only sought to forcibly displace First Nations people from their lands but also to to attack Indigenous systems of communal living.

Similarly: we encourage tourism in the market and yet stairwells in the cities, public parking garage, and other areas routinely smell of urine. Sure, we hose it down and we pay someone to clean it up, but why don’t we just build public washrooms? #Dignity #PublicInterest

To do the math here you first have to fix a basic error: Bradford’s 2026 figure includes the rate budget (garbage, water, parking) but his 2011 figure does not. Real numbers: $9.4 billion in 2011; $16.6 billion in 2026. Now account for ~800K population growth and ~40% inflation.
