Adding my 2 cents to the HNJ article on public schools and education: - most of this conversation has led me to believe that hardly anyone actually understands what goes on in schools; - people are blaming teachers unions for decisions that unions don’t get to make and your ire is misplaced

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my dear friend Satan, the Prince of Lies. Though we often disagreed about matters such as the appropriate role of torture in the afterlife, I will most remember how his quick wit and affable nature made our weekly golf outings a ritual. He will be missed.

Can everyone just step back and realize how insane it is that the U.S. Supreme Court had to rule on the constitutionality of the U.S. constitution, and the vote to uphold the constitution wasn't unanimous.

What a terrible loss for Portland and for journalism. I don't know of anyone who loved the city more than Zane. He put himself in harm’s way and told hard truths. He documented realities that undermined a world’s worth of Portland mythmaking. www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...

They’re packaging it like this so it looks like a shallow trend, but Gen Z has gone through two financial crises, a pandemic, rising fascism, active shooter drills since they were toddlers, and are now being told by the oligarchy they’re to be replaced by robots. Socialism is the logical conclusion.

When children are shot in their classrooms, all politicians can offer are thoughts and prayers. When a shooting happens near them, they demand a $350 million golden ballroom to protect themselves.
Don't normalize a system that protects power more than it protects children.

if there is a path to either national nonpartisan redistricting or proportional representation, it is going to go through one party or another. but the first step toward it actually happening is for that party to win power, and you go to war with the system you have, not the one you want.

the shift to a winner-take-all distribution of electoral votes? a partisan project. the development of the mass political party? a partisan project. antislavery and reconstruction? a partisan project. even direct election of senators comes out of populist agitation in the late 19th century.
