Idk I almost have the opposite take, where I have a general aversion to genAI, but I see restaurants that I otherwise like using it on their menus & advertising, and feel I just gotta roll with it and choose my battles

AI copy on menus is some of the easiest to suss out — “come and try our [X] today,” “indulge in the authentic flavors of [X],” weird intensifiers like “top-notch” etc. nauseating when i see it, and it’s turning up everywhere

Our local spots have weekly specials. They put the plate in a well-lit area, take a photo of it, and post it with a simple description. You don’t need a Hollywood set or a novella. In a way it also presents a sense of laziness that compounds with the laziness of using generative AI in general. It already feels like cutting corners when you use AI to generate your menu/logo/signage/etc and you add to it by generating an image of your food. Take some pride in your work!

I've said it before but I'll say it more clearly now: image generation is a deeply stupid waste of time that only serves to polarize public sentiment against AI generally. It is remarkable how oblivious (some of) the labs are to this very obvious concept.
