People search for safe routes to cycle in London (more than elsewhere) because the safe routes are few and far between. This is not something to be proud of.

This is a really daft take. Did you even read the article? All it says is that the most internet searches for cycling relate to London, which means nothing. It’s not the “favourite city for cycling” at all. People search to find out about the cycling infrastructure, and then they discover it’s crap.

Changes have been dramatic in tourist areas, but in parts of Zone 2 and beyond, routes can feel incredibly dangerous for cycling and walking, especially when drivers use smaller roads for racing. I don't want these outer areas to be ignored.

No no Sadiq. The number of Google searches about ‘Cycling in London’ is no measure of the popularity of cycling in London. It’s a) a reflection of the size of London b) its popularity as a tourist destination and c) the paucity of cycling provision compared to other European capitals.

Search rankings is a poor analogue for progress on cycling. You don't need to google cycling routes in Amsterdam because you know they exist for wherever you need to go. Paris is getting close to that level of quality too. Whereas in London, you have to become a researcher before braving the roads.
